The warranty doesn't really make-up for Seagate's failings elsewhere (no longer being the cheapest or quietest or most reliable). Will people figure this out?

The power-on hours are irrelevant, as they'd replace the drive under the warranty anyway. The 120GXP didn't seem to be any less reliable than any other similar drive.

It's also much easier to get into an accident, as your mind is less able to cope with the world zipping past it.

From a previous post, its obvious the drives were both previous on the primary channel (and working). A burner of some type was on the secondary. The channels are now switched, but not the master-slave relationships.

I'm curious as to how the jumper settings would be affected by changing the the IDE channels....

What's our budget here? You can pick up a 18GB 15k.3 for $100 or less. Those refurbed 36GB drives were going for around $130. x15lps go for even less. Ultra 2 wide cards can be found for $10 or less (see the ones I have posted in the for sale forum); used Ultra160/m cards are $40 or less...

I'd say that those of us that value reliability are fairly rare in the enthusiast community. Most people are concerned about size and "speed" (whatever that may be).
