    The state of overclocking

I haven't been overclocking lately... mainly because I want as stable and cool/quiet machines as possible. As far as I know, there are ways to unlock the Durons (model 7) and AthlonXP's (models 6 and 8) with hardware modifications... and the Epox boards seem to be able to soft unlock...

help me find a piece of software... testing LAN speed.

btw, I dont want to test the speed using something like SMB or windows shares.. because this would too heavily rely on the server and the implementation of the SMB server/client programs... I want to test the speed of two Intel Pro 1000 T Server Adapters that seem to currently max out at...

help me find a piece of software... testing LAN speed.

I am looking for a network bandwidth tester basically... I once had a command line tool that would test the bandwidth from one computer to another on a LAN using randomly generated data... this meant that one could easily test the network speed without fear of interfearence from the rest of...

yeah, it's probably all about computer usage and idle cycles.... what can a monkey really do with a PC? I imagine she spends most of her computer time deleting tannin's important files and making typos in his important documents. Not to mention using the computer as a storage space for food...

Old (but good) stuff pricing interrogations.

THe current state of most on-board graphics is that they are comparable to a TNT Vanta or a TNT2 M64... Both of these are based on the TNT2 core (i believe). The difference is that the m64 and vanta have a 64bit wide memory bus (half that of a regular TNT2) and are clocked slower in both the...

Exactly how much does AC97 suck?

my AC'97 in Tux racer works well.... i once got to ~100FPS, using my TNT2 m64 I believe.... Other than that, you could get something simple like a C media based board for sub $30. Or go all out with a TBSC or hercules board. Just a side note, the Nforce2 audio uses considerably less CPU usage...

    Something's sneezing inside my PC

hopefully that's a bearing to a $6 fan.... I hate random computer noises BTW.... In my mind computers should emit no noise or a constant quiet hum... Well.. actually I like a little seek noise now and then so I know something is happening when I click on stuff.

Are you sure it's not a wire or anything getting in the way of a fan? That would be my 1st guess since it's an easy and common thing to happen.... Did you try reverting to the original setup to see if the noise persists? sounds odd.. I've never heard of a noise like that from a computer...
