my AC'97 in Tux racer works well.... i once got to ~100FPS, using my TNT2 m64 I believe.... Other than that, you could get something simple like a C media based board for sub $30. Or go all out with a TBSC or hercules board. Just a side note, the Nforce2 audio uses considerably less CPU usage...

Are you sure it's not a wire or anything getting in the way of a fan? That would be my 1st guess since it's an easy and common thing to happen.... Did you try reverting to the original setup to see if the noise persists? sounds odd.. I've never heard of a noise like that from a computer...

I almost bought a HDD from them once, I'm glad I no longer do. I don't neccessarily think that someone has to be 100% correct 100% of the time, but when you get into a bad habit on a consistant basis there are bound to be problems. I wonder how it has affected teir failure rates? I didn't ask...
