    Laptop hard drive bad?

What make/model drive is it? Running the manufacturer's utilities should allow you to diagnose any problems and reassign bad sectors. As always, backup first.

Where Are The Serial ATA Opticals?

Where are the serial ATA opticals? On a whim, I looked for them and got two; both generation-old DVD burners. Shouldn't they be here in some numbers by now? Surely there's money to be made by slapping on a bridge chip and charging more.

Actually, the entire 555 prefix in each area code is reserved, which is why it is always used in TV and film. Other than 555-1212, I'm not aware of any "real" numbers in that prefix.

If it's just checking reported user agents, then I'd show up as Netscape, even though I use Firefox. Some secure websites will support Netscape 7+ but not the matching versions of Mozilla and Firefox; a little hacking of the user agent solves the problem.

    Bad news for AMD fanboys??

The market for S939 Opterons is the same as for S939 Athlon64 chips. Generally, if you're building on the cheap, you'll get an Athlon; and, if you're after performance and overclockability, you'll get the Opteron. Why bother having two mutually interchangeable lines, pretending one is somehow...

Not quite right. MKS (like CGS) is a convenience system. While the meter, kilogram, second, ampere, Kelvin, mole, and candela are the fundamental units of the SI, there are fields where CGS derived units are commonly used, and a few others where both MKS and CGS are used. Metric includes all...

Radeon 7000 hangs, is this because of DirectX9?

PowerDVD should support some sort of hardware acceleration, although it's likely to be for DVDs only. WiMP 6.4 doesn't directly support any form of hardware acceleration. This is to say that you're probably playing MPEG-4 (DivX) files in software only. What's the rest of this computer look like?
  33. sechs

Radeon 7000 hangs, is this because of DirectX9?

Unfortunately, incorrect. DirectDraw has been rolled into DirectX. This is to say that DirectX is now all forms of graphics acceleration in Windows. This is why, when you make some changes to DirectX settings, the screen blinks. It also makes it easy to do fancy-pants interface effects.

Ghost Boot CD with USB Support?

If your BIOS doesn't have legacy keyboard support, then it's going to be hard to get by without a PS/2 keyboard. A USB mouse is a different story. I've seen drivers that emulate it to PS/2, but I have no idea where that was.
