I can't say that I've ever had a problem at either of those distances. In a quick test that I just did, my keyboard transmitted at about seven feet through me, a wall, and my solid oak desk. I guess mileage varies.

If you are scanning these for archival purposes, I'd suggest using a high resolution. On non-colour photographs you should experiment with scanning in grayscale, as well as colour; I have found that this sometimes leads to better results.

ImageReady will eventually go away. Unless you're doing serious preparation of images for web pages, I'd stick to Photoshop.

I might suggest hiring a typist familiar with both platforms. That'll be easy and, most likely, fast. 8) Quickbooks may go straight across (contact Quicken), but the others will have to go through a third format, for extra mangling. Expect problems.

I haven't done anything serious yet, but, as much as I can tell, it doesn't perform any worse than a 15k.3. It *does* seem to make a more disconcerting startup noise, reminiscent of the Atlas 15k.

I use CDex 1.60. It doesn't have the accuracy that EAC offers, but is considerably easier to use. If you're going to be ripping a good disk to a lossey format with a reasonable drive, then you're unlikely to notice any difference between the two.
