That's bullshit! Didn't SUV's contribute to make snow storms get worse! Plus, in Quebec, more than half of the vehicles (don't remember exactly how many) are sub-compact or compact cars. Those aren't the types of cars that usually handle well in snow or ice. You don't see everyone in Quebec...

    nForceFX chipset for Socket-A duallie

Anyway, if such chipset came out, it would be excellent news for the dual socket A platform. Dual channel DDR makes perfect sence in a dual processor system. Plus, the 760MPX and the boards based on it are getting a bit old, they lack such features as USB 2.0, Firewire, S-ATA, AGP 8X, etc...

    nForceFX chipset for Socket-A duallie

Is this confirmed news? I suppose not...and for now, i hope not. I just bought a Tyan Tiger MPX... Ah well, i'll just have to upgrade when it comes out :).

Was the Net under attack this late afternoon?

I was also having troubles coug. But it seems to be ISP related. I (tried) to play counter-strike that afternoon and had a ping of 200, compared to the usual 30 (half of the players on the server had a high ping while the others had a regular one). I could not access SR and SF and my ICQ/MSN was...

    [NEWS] - WinXP passwords bypass

Most people who actually need to secure their computer have an admin password. The rest are those who do not want to enter a password. The windows 9x type of people :) .

    [NEWS] - WinXP passwords bypass

?!? Linux superior? I never said that. It's because I do not know linux (and solaris, freebsd, etc...) that I refered to windows in my first post. I did not realize that it was present in many Oses. In fact, you are right, the linux boot loader can make you boot of a floppy or a CD-ROM. I...

    [NEWS] - WinXP passwords bypass

You can set the BIOS so it boots the HD first, and then set a password in the BIOS. That way the user cannot boot with a cd or a floppy (you must probably arrange the bootloader too).

    [NEWS] - WinXP passwords bypass

Then why put an administrator password then? Why secure the computer when you can bypass the admin password! It seems un-logical. Most of the time people have physical access to a machine when using it right? That's why I said that it's a major security issue. I just thought that there was no...

    [NEWS] - WinXP passwords bypass

Obviously, there are chances that this is a false alert. Mayeb it's with windows XP home edition? And yes, most home installations of windows XP are unsecure, so it does not make any difference to the average Joe-WinXP user. However, if this was true, it would be a major hole in windows XP. I...

    Front page info XP3000+

Whoaaa, there's Tea! What I meant (silly ape) is that the additionnal cache only compensates the fact that AMD are not able to boost the Athlon's clock speed. Imagine if they doubled the cache AND could give the XP a higher clock speed. Then we will have an extraordinary chip, much like the...

    Front page info XP3000+

The Barton 3000+ is nothing more than an Athlon XP 3000+. It's nothing extraordinary. I would have thought that the extra cache would really boost the athlon's performance and help it regain the performance crown but sadly, it did not happen. AMD is kind in survival mode with the Athlon right...

    10K Western Digital SATA Drive!!!

It's nice that they make them in a 36GB capacity. Perfect for boot/os/app drives. Performance wise, maybe the WD drives can outperform the Atlas 10KIV in desktop/high-end applications. It will probably depend on the firmware. WD 7200 drives have been good performers so maybe their first 10K...

    Videocards for dual displays

I'm probably going to go for a Radeon 9000 PRO 64MB AGP. A PCI card would be a good idea, but it wastes a PCI slot for nothing. Does anyone know if the DVI to VGA converter comes in the reatil box of the Radeon 9000 PRO? It costs 13CAN$ for that adapter :excl:

New Motherboard Doesn't like to Cold Boot

I had similar problems with my Abit KT7A. Sometimes, when i'd cold boot, the system would start, but there was no video, no beep, no sign of life. I had to stop the system and start it again using the PSU switch. It was much less annoying than what you are exprencing. It happened about 5% of the...

    Videocards for dual displays

The only reason I would want good 3D is to replace temporarily my Gf2MX until I get a better video card. But the radeon 7000 does not have better 3D performance. Therefore, 3D is not an issue. I can't seem to find any of those old PCI cards. I suggested the radeon 7000 PCI because it's the...

    Most evil software company

You forgot Apple! They'd take top prize in the 'worst maketing' category. Also, quick time for windows is one of the worst piece of software I ever came across. Microsoft have annoying licencing policies. However, because of the MSDNAA program, I get some of their software for free :) ...

most unsecure O/S? yup, it's possibly Linux...

Yes, it's almost ridiculous that they think auto-update will make windows more secure. Not only auto-update is useless for servers. In an enterprise environment, users cannot install updates themselves on their workstations. I remember that we deployed the auto-update feature to users, but it...

most unsecure O/S? yup, it's possibly Linux...

I think there is no way to evaluate which OS is more secure. Windows gets bashed because there are many attacks on it. But there are more people running windows, and I believe that there are more people who will take windows as a target. That must be considered. However, I agree that the...
