PC Gaming = World of Suck

I just *really* don't like Steam. I don't like the idea of DRM in general, and the way it was implemented here just seems invasive to me. I shouldn't have to install a component that I do not want to. And no, you can't just uninstall Steam after it's done installing, I don't think the normal...

Wunderbar. And they won't take the game back as it's been opened. But it hasn't been associated with a Steam account, so... Ah, screw it. I'll find a way to use the official game files without steam. It's the only way I'll be able to get it running on this laptop, otherwise too much is running...

PC Gaming = World of Suck

On the subject of Steam (mentioned in the first post)... I did buy the Legendary Edition of Skyrim. When I go to install it, it wants to install Steam. Howaboutno.jpg. Is it morally right for me to just download a Steam-free version off TPB? I mean, I did buy it, so...

The minimum system requirements are a Pentium III @ 700MHz, 256MB RAM, and a 32MB DirectX-compatible graphics card. And bear in mind it's being used as a server. I'm not planning on running the client on this hardware, though I doubt it'd run with any issues.

Apparently, Asheron's Call is going F2P later this year, after ~15 years of actually getting Turbine revenue. But don't take my word for it. I've played this game on and off since 2007, so this is pretty big for me. Gonna set up my Optiplex GX270 as the server when they release the software to...

What's the difference between BSD and Linux, really?

Yeah, that's the site I found too. Unfortunately it seems that none of the BSDs like working with ANY of my networking hardware. A darn shame, I really wanted to kick it around.

    Goodbye Firefox

I've been having stability issues with x64 Chrome (and Chromium) under Ubuntu, so I've checked out FF again. Surprisingly, after some tweaks (and classic theme restorer, oldtabs, and a FF 2 theme...) it's running quite smoothly. I'm not having the issues that I did with Pale Moon, and everything...

Wow, thanks! Very generous of you. My birthday lies in the 2nd week of July, the 18th to be exact. I'll be leaving for Illinois to spend a couple weeks with my uncle in mid-August. It doesn't matter if you use higher speed RAM than the system is rated for unless you mix RAM speeds. The system...

What's the difference between BSD and Linux, really?

I've heard BSD is what happens when programmers try to port Unix to x86, but that Linux is what happens when programmers try to write Unix for x86. I know that BSD is less modular than Linux, and is in general somewhat more difficult to use. Are there any real advantages to BSD? Linux's modular...

Didn't you know that the internet is for porn? All kidding aside, that's hilarious. I still don't have anything that can do 1080p, but they have 4k porn now? About that poll, was I included in this or what? I'm 15, turning 16 next month, so I might be an outlier in the other direction.

Yeah, I got really lucky with this one. Not a P4, Intel Graphics, SXGA model... DDR2 RAM... And it still works great to boot. I want to give it 2 GB RAM and at least an 80GB hard drive. Got a Latitude D610!

So yes, it does use a special adapter that is hellishly difficult to get off for the HDD. And yes, it only has 1 memory slot readily accessible -- populated with one 512MB stick, which tells me that either the rest of the RAM is soldered on (which doesn't make any sense to me) or is in another...

Wow. That is such bullcrap. BTW, I figured out that it doesn't have DDR-266 RAM like I thought it did, rather it has DDR2-533. I was shocked. Also, I saw the nForce2 name scrolling past during bootup, but it doesn't have that. It has an Intel 915G/GM, which steals some system RAM, making it...

    Got a Latitude D610!

From my grandma, who gave it to me because it was really slow. That and the fact that it was ~10 years old told her she needed to buy a new one. Apparently this model is notorious for having issues. The motherboard will occasionally get small cracks in it and cause severe instability. Which...

Yeah, I'd agree with you there. I've been finding that I can't have near as many tabs open on my P4 as I can the laptop, not just because the P4 is weaker, but it starts swapping to disk way too soon. I had my RAM half full if that and it slows to unusable speeds. Chrome here, occasionally IE...
