If I'm buying new, I'll rather buy something as powerfull as possible, it's easier that way for me to get rid of the stuff later. I change my own hardware quite a lot, and build computers for others and that is sometimes a good opportunity to get rid of my "old" stuff. I can't easily get...

My other choice was an Asus PC-DL and 2 xeons, but as I thought about putting this in my file server the dually system would be a bit wasted. As for a single Xeon, I thought the 533 vs. 800 FSB might have some impact on the system. I only checked on these as they have Intel GIGe CSAs...

Or a X15.4 ;) ? With lots of dampening... Just use one quiet harddrive in the rig, a fast GIGe CSA motherboard, good cabling and put a fileserver somewhere with the "whiners" and an equally good CSA GIGe MB? Like blakerwry said...IF you need lots of space. Or something like a Samsung SP1604 or...

I'm with Tea here with my own experience. VIA for me thanks. The nforce mobos I've used have been VERY lousy with the memory I use, which is Kingston. I'm running 400MHz stuff at 366MHz speeds on the Nforce mobos, sucker isn't stable otherwise. And this with a few different mobos. The stuff is...

Mercutio, Yes, that's what I wan't. The problem here being I tried to copy a folder from my HD to my DVD-RW station that had a CD-RW disc in it, and it's a no go. Why didn't it see it as a writable media? Or was there just a typo that I made......?

If I used a CD-RW, the batch file would then first need to erase/format the disc, then copy the files to it and verify them, right? What would I use for erasing the disc? Can I then just copy "xcopy x:\directory z: /v/e"? Assuming z: would be the DVD-RW/CD-RW station. Just did an erase in my...

The U320 is applicable for one channel. If it's a dual channel card, then both channels support 320MB/s.

If one drive is capable of a max sustained transfer rate of ~100MB/s, there's still room for others before they reach 320MB/s. With this logic, presuming all the work would be sequential on the drive, it would take at least 3+ drives to max out the channel. As most work is not sequential, you...
