Some motherboards (eg H61) come with this host controller to provide SATA 3 & RAID support. I'm vaguely aware of people having more issues than with the Intel native controller.

Has anyone here used one? I'm planning to buy more than one, so a little reassurance would be great, or a warning even better.

I am omnipresent
I've built machines that have used them as standard SATA ports without issue. I've not tried to use one for RAID support. As standard SATA ports, they appear to be entirely acceptable.

In particular, I found Marvell's eSATA3 controller a lot better than Sil's.

Thanks. I'm not proposing to use them for RAID, although that was enough of a concern with earlier versions of the Marvell chip that Gigabyte recommended not using them for that purpose.

I'm more concerned whether or not they can do SATA III justice. There appear to have been firmware updates in the last few months - and there have certainly been chip revisions in the last year - so hopefully they've fixed throughput being lower than SATA 2 ...
