Intel board won't POST with RAID card?

Intel Celeron 1.8Ghz single core (32W)
2x Geil 1GB 800Mhz DDR2
160GB Toshiba 2.5" SATA drive (OS) connected to onboard SATA controller
Server 2003 R2

When I connect my 3Ware Escalade 9650SE-16 to the PCI-E 16x slot, it locks on post. The Intel splash-screen stays up forever and a test of the Numlock shows that it isn't responsive. With the card out the system is perfect (using it now).

Any thoughts?

Nevermind. It doesn't freeze forever, but it waits a long damn time, then boots correctly.

My fuzzy memory is telling me there is a setting in the motherboard BIOS that needs to be set if you are using the x16 slot for something other than a video card.

That was my thought as well, but I didn't find anything (other than telling the OS to use onboard video). Regardless, I've moved on to other things now, and won't have an opportunity to revisit this issue. Thanks for the follow-up.
