I decided to paint my boring "plain jane" Enlight mid tower case (model 7237) to a sleek midnight blue and chrome coloration... I must say it turned out much better than I had imagined.. especially the optical drives...

I am still wondering if I should have the floppy drive door chrome or paint it blue like the rest of the case.

The pics labelled "small" are 640x480, the pics labelled "WinCE" are 320x240, and the unspecified pics are left at the original resolution of my camera.

How did you manage to paint the face plate of the optical drives without having paint entering into the drives' mecanism? I know the plastic plate can be remove, but the swinging door and buttons aren't.

You'd be suprised what you can and can't remove... :- )

On my LG CD-R (8160b) I can remove the front of the drive tray(it simply slides off upwards), then I can remove the rest of the face plate(which is realeased by pressing down 3 tabs)... once the face plate is removed the buttons and, more importantly, the LED diffusers come off easily.

On my LiteOn (LTD122) the front of the drive tray and the front of the drive was removed easily in the same manner, however the LED diffuser and buttons could not be removed from the drive front. It was a bit tricker to do this drive... if I were showing you how to do this drive, I would suggest:
1) mask off all but the 2 buttons and paint them chrome
2) mask off the LED
3) The buttons can be pushed down far enough so that you can actually slide a piece of paper between them and the rest of the drive front(illustration 1) this is how you should mask these.
4)paint the rest of the drive front now that you have proper maksing

*The only things I couldn't remove were the volume and minijack outputs on the drives... these I painted with chrome fingernail polish... these were the ONLY things I couldn't remove to spray paint.

The bottom drive is my LG, and the top is my LiteOn... although it looks like the buttons have been removed they are just masked/depressed on the LiteOn
