Anyone see a problem with the setup below? I was reading through 3ware's documentation and I didn't see anything referencing booting from the 3ware card and that made me a little nervous.

3Ware 7500-8
2 80gig drives Mirrored for OS boot volume
4 160 Gig drives RAID5 for storage

I have booted from RAID cards like the Promise where you have to setup the computer BIOS to boot from SCSI and then in the RAID controller firmware mark the bootable array, hoping it's the same with the 3Ware.

Yup, this shouldn't be a problem. I've done very similar things in the past. My main office computer has a 8506-4LP running a 2-drive RAID-1 and a 2-drive RAID-0; I boot to the RAID-0 of course...

In the 3Ware configuration pagr you cam mark which array it should boot to. Also be carefull what motherboard you use; as some of the cheaper mobos with SATA onboard don't give you an option to boot to anything on the PCI bus.

You mean in the BIOS setup page or the 3DM windows software to mark the bootable volume? I didn't see it in the BIOS so I just made the one I wanted to boot to the lower # and it works that way.

What I was unhappy to see was the lack of the ability to set up the mirror with one of the drives already having info on it and creating the mirror set from that drive. I know promise can do this, am I totally missing something? Ghost and a USB hard drive saved me here.

I mean the BIOS-like configuration page of the 3Ware controller. After creating all the arrays, you press one of the buttons to mark an array as bootable.
