    Video Cards

On the current Apple Silicon series stuff, they are custom devices as the actual drive controller is in the SOC and the 'HDD' is just a card with NAND flash and a bridge chip on it. You can source upgrades and DIY, but you may need access to some Apple software to reset the drive controller in...

    WD 18TB and 20 TB

Based on my reading, it's firmware tweaked for AI workloads that process video... My guess it's the same firmware used for video surveillance systems (basically linear writes at low IO queue depth), but tweaked to be more responsive to random IO in regions the were written recently... (The cache...

    WD 18TB and 20 TB

I would assume the 'AI' part means the firmware is designed for typical IO workloads found when used with AI software. Similar to how drives for video systems is designed more for linear IO, vs random IO. And HHDs for NAS may be tweaked for more random IO and quieter running, and so on.

    Non-Binary DDR5

IIRC, SDR -> DDR4 were a single 64bit wide data bus to the DIMM, but with DDR5 that was changed to a 2x 32bit data bus, thus allowing 2x 32bit reads to the DIMM to done independently. Due to the change to 32bit wide channels we can now have non power of 2 sizing of the actual memory chip...

IIRC, nVidia said no new architecture until 2025. Will look at refreshes of current generation (aka Super's and Super Ti's) and continued focus on AI for 2024... Some reports are also indicating the the 50xx series will be a refresh of the current Ada Lovelace GPU (same architecture on a die...

The only items to really note, was the unusual RAM size for the M3 Pro based MacBooks, eg, based installed size is 18GB, and that the M3 Pro has 25% less memory bandwidth compared to the M2 Pro (150GB/s vs 200GB/s). Mind you, having colour matched keyboards on the iMac is a nice touch...

IIRC, AMD licensed and used one the ASMedia USB 3.x controller designs in their Ryzen chipsets, so you won't see as ASMedia, but rather as a AMD chipset controller. Motherboard manufacturers would often add additional USB controllers to boost the number of USB ports. It was speculated that it...

From what I seen on Reddit, no, it affects all 7000' series chips. (there are reports of 7600X and 7700X - non-3D models seeing the same failure). The root cause appears to be too much voltage sent to the IO Die (aka VSOC), where the IO Die on the 7000's should receive no more than 1.3V...
