As it turns out you can't get an E8200 anywhere, or an E8400 for that matter (unless you want to pay a serious premium). I was "weak" and grabbed a Q6600 for $199.99 from Microcenter today when I was there. :D

Why do you recommend that over say a Core 2 Duo E8200 (45nm with more L2 cache)? It's faster MHz, per MHz, should overclock better, and uses a lot less power MHz per MHz.

OK, so my main computer is a water cooled P4-3.06HT. It's well over 5 years old. I'm thinking to build another machine to replace it. I'm thinking Intel Core2 Duo or maybe Core2 Quad (unless there's a really compelling reason to go AMD). What's the suggested bang for the buck motherboard or...

I disagree. Buffet is another liberal hypocrite. He wants to change the very system that he's busy taking advantage of. Why doesn't he lead by example? Why doesn't he let the gov't tax his money instead of hiding it in tax shelters?

Well, you guys can keep using your PCs to heat your house and rooms. I'll use my natural gas fueled forced air heating system (furnace).

It eventually ends up as heat, but that heat doesn't necessarily end up in your room. :mad: Why everyone is so bound and determined to fight the point that a heater is a better heater than a computer is beyond me.

None, but the CPU isn't the only component in a PC that consumes power is it? There are fans, lights, and a monitor that turn some of the electrical power into something other than heat.

Not if you convert the electrical energy to mechanical energy or another form (like light). So, my comment in terms of heat per watt of electrical energy is correct in that context.

Somehow I bet a space heater can affect the room temperature more per watt than a P4. :p

Ok, so I did some more testing on another machine (work laptop). This thing has PGP disk encryption on it, so that could be a factor into the numbers. Anyhow... Using the same set of large files (1.07GB and 31 files) writing to the USB drives I got 62 seconds with the Buffalo and 170 seconds...

Reading small files isn't that hard to do quickly, most flash drives have a hard time writing them quickly. This Buffalo drive almost seems to be an anomaly. Xbit FC Test 1.0 Xbit FC Test 2.0

The fastest way to tax reform is to eliminate automated employer deductions from paychecks. Give people their full pay check and have them get a bill from the gov't each month that they have to pay along with their mortgage, cell phone, cable, credit cards, etc. You'd have tax reform so fast...

Personally, I don't buy this. I find it really hard to believe that people donate money to charity, church, or other non profit organizations because they're going to get a tax deduction. And, ultimately if you let people keep more of their money they will be more generous with it.
