I run a full low level drive test on each drive before using them with data. However, I find that most of the time drives drop out there is a issue with the power supply/connectors or a defective board.

That may be more of a difference between business vs. consumer market. A dropoff/delivery van would be of no use to me as a consumer since I work during the daytime hours.

I'm not sure that benchmark is the right term. Presumably the OP wants to ensure used drives are in good shape before flogging them on auction and there are many to be tested.
