I think I will hold off on buying the Dell for now. It's not a spectacular deal, and the Samsung SA850 is close enough to market that it's probably worth waiting to see how it stacks up.

I thought the Auzentech card couldn't handle 1080p24. Can it pass 3D video? Regardless, the video cards with HDMI audio certainly aren't any less capable.

So, apparently the SA850 is not glossy. But, it's LED edgelit which wouldn't be my first choice. Of course it's not out yet, so it's all still sort of nebulous.

This lens was $200 everywhere before the earthquake in Japan. Nikon has not raised the MSRP. I think you can still get it for $200 at Best Buy. Pretty slimy of all the resellers to raise their prices. :tdown:

Why? :scratch: The video cards are just as capable (if not more so) in terms of HDMI audio. But, if you want to pay $200+ for an Auzentech HDMI sound card I guess that's up to you.

FWIW, I have a Dell PERC 5i in a P67 motherboard that works fine, and it's basically a LSI 8480e.

FWIW, I don't have problem doing FLAC to FLAC with a 7200RPM HD (same drive) with 4 cores (Q6600 @ 3.0gHz). 8-)

Were you reading and writing to the same drive? What program are you using? What format are the source files?

So, after a handful of e-mails, they have finally issued me an RMA. And, they even covering the return shipping.

I swear Newegg has their e-mail replied to by monkeys. They just keep saying the same thing back to me without reading my replies and it seems there's no way to escalate anything.

So, they replied and told me their return policy on replacement orders is tied to the original order invoice date. I wrote back and asked them to show me where that's documented on their site since for all I know they're just making this up as they go.

No, I just know how to do math. You think it makes fiscal sense to replace a car that's paid off but gets 20MPG with a new $25k car that get 32MPG? If we assume gas is $5.00 a gallon you'd have to drive 266,667 miles to cover the cost of the new car with the savings on gas. Vastly oversimplify...

Getting rid of a car that's only problem is less than ideal fuel economy for a new one that gets better fuel economy rarely makes sense. You can buy a lot of gas for the price of new car. I'm also unsure how a car with a V-6 will end up costing more on tires, oil, and other stuff. If you can...

Considering only a SSD can take advantage of 6Gbps SATA I don't see a real problem with only have 2 of them. As far as USB 3.0 the nearly all of the motherboards have it courtesy of a chip from Renesas.

I already spelled the two "advantages". The ability to use Quick Sync via the onboard graphics (which can't actually drive an external monitor). SSD caching. Color me unimpressed.

Not sure what you're getting at there, but the reviews of the Z68 chipset I saw show no advantage over the P67 unless you're interested in using the integrated graphics for quicksync or want to use SSD caching.

Well, I guess one of two replacement drive being good isn't so bad. ;) One full formated with 0kb of bad sectors. The other is basically a whir/click special if anything tries to access it (like the BIOS on booting up). I'm going to press Newegg real hard to paying for the return shipping...

Klipsch speakers definitely are not neutral sounding. They are bright and harsh.

So, I received the two replacement drives today from Newegg. The first one is already being long formatted. We'll see if they do as well as 2 bad drives out of 7 or if they do as poorly as 4 bad drives out of 7.
