SSDs - State of the Product?

Sweet. And at under $5/GB...not bad in that performance segment. I have yet to put a storage subsystem that expensive in a workstation, and I doubt ESXi supports it.

Your home Stereo/sound system/s? What did you buy, how much, and why did you buy it?

Just got the DLA-RS65 fully set up, it is an amazing unit. It actually gives you independent control over the red and blue alignment (in relation to the green) in a massive set of zones across the display. Amazingly bright, but the big kicker is the contrast ratio (120,000:1), the blacks on the...

Vodka and Tonic is excellent, Vodka and fruit juice is fine. Vodka and Red Bull should be considered highly destructive (worse than many controlled substances) and should not be stocked at the same time.

It depends on how you want to go. The good news is that most of it never goes bad (and in fact may get better). Since you won't be consuming it regularly, you may as well get good stuff and represent a solid collection. Wine: Cabernet Sauvignon (red) Chardonnay (white) Beer: Ask someone else...

question How do people buy music these days?

It plays in my office whenever I am there: 45 hours It streams to my cell phone whenever I'm riding my bike: 12 hours It plays at home when I'm surfing (like now): 10 hours? I'm awake about 120 hours a week, listening to music just more than half that time seems about right.

I listen about 60 hours/week...that is a penny an hour. I'm OK with that.

    The death of Best Buy

Many things (including TVs, BluRay players, etc) have gotten so cheap and so good that most users couldn't go wrong scanning the feature list and buying on brand/price. I don't think it matters for the average customer any more.

People like us? I (and I'm sure Merc) have a decent inventory of bits, and have owned/held/fondled all the relevant tech from a big box store. My clients and friends no longer go to places like that for stuff; they call me and ask for a recommendation, and I either send them a link to...

    Tablet Data

Does your router support bandwidth usage reporting? Mine is a bit more advanced than many need; I use a computer running Smoothwall. But I suspect that many of the aftermarket firmwares for normal routers support it as well. You could also start at a small plan and monitor usage after the fact...

    Tablet Data

Not sure if it has one. Mine (ASUS Transformer, just updated to 4.03) has an item called "data usage" in the settings menu, but I think it is only for cellular data. If I wanted to check WiFi usage (not sure why) I would pull the data from my router by MAC address.

It's just that it doesn't get you much that you can't already get with a normal i7. If you want the main thing that you can't get with an i7 (8 real cores), you still get squeezed for a workstation class board.

question How do people buy music these days?

    Kepler GPU GeForce GTX 680

    Best movie you've seen

But there is the problem. Life itself is like that. There are enough things that I experience in life that I don't like. I have no need for instant-replays of the un-fun bits. This is why I avoid most (all?) fictional programming.
