I heard about this a couple weeks ago from a friend, I have yet to read anything about it yet. Got any better links?

Try riding a stationary bike. It doesn't burn as many calories as running, but I find it is easier to ride for longer periods of time. Plus, one of the main points of cardio is to raise the heart rate and the bike gets that done quite well. Recumbent bikes are recommended as I have heard that...

    Microsoft joke of the day

I hope you are right. Even though the EL in Chicago had the highest number of riders in 2005 since 1985, they still had to increase the cost to ride. Plus, at the beginning of 2005 they were talking about cutting service at off-hours and on certain lines. If the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority)...

JTR, that is pretty good info. I still am not entirely sure if it is directly comparable between cities. It is too bad that it is not a bit newer. I have read multiple places that public transportation has been used a lot more since last summer when oil prices were much higher, even after...

GM Pulls Ads From L.A. Times

I had found both of those earlier, but thanks for linking to them. These raw numbers seem like they are pretty difficult to compare between cities. Especially when one city might include mostly commuter trains (LA), while another one is mostly subway (NY). What do you think?

GM Pulls Ads From L.A. Times

That is metropolitan areas. It really isn't what I am looking for. I don't care about the people that live in suburbs because for the most part these people do not take public transportation, unless it is a commuter train to work (which I doubt is taken into account in that graph). Plus, this...

I've been on the St. Louis Metro once. I think most people there just drive to work/school/etc. I own a car, but I really only use it when I am leaving the city, everywhere that I travel in the city is either done by walking or on public transportation. I was looking for a list of public...

GM Pulls Ads From L.A. Times

There are several US cities where there are real public transit systems in place, that people actually use. I know the CTA doesn't really compare to the MTA, but it still provided 492,405,118 rides in 2005. I'm glad that I accounted for several of them.

IE CSS Bug - Disappearing borders

There really isn't a lot I can do about this. I really only have control over the content on that page. I don't have control over the header, footer, the top part of the left navigation, or the CSS. I gave the person that is in charge of the main CSS file the information about how to fix this...

IE CSS Bug - Disappearing borders

Please take a look at this page in IE6: http://www.abanet.org/environ/home2.html Notice that when you scroll over the lower modules/buckets (whatever you want to call them) on the page the left and right borders are disappearing. This does not happen in Firefox. I searched for similar...

    Make Word-to-HTML less sucky?

You might consider something like Dreamweaver if you need a simple WYSIWYG editor. I assume your document starts as a word document and you want to convert it to an html doc or something similar.

Top Ten Web Design Mistakes of 2005

Rather than simply agreeing to agree. Read this article about some of the benefits of fixed width designs. There is no definite right or wrong answer here, just because you say something is wrong doesn't make it wrong.

If fixed width is so exil, then why do so many websites go that route? I'm not saying that all websites should be fixed width. However, Six of the top ten websites in the English speaking world are fixed width (from Alexa, which I know is not the best source, but, it's better than nothing).

    HIS brand video cards

Problem #1 is most likely to happen. With the prices of computer hardware so cheap these days I haven't bothered with an RMA in quite a while (unless it is a DOA). A $400-500 video card is another matter though. But, I don't buy things that are that expensive.

Top Ten Web Design Mistakes of 2005

I recently found this website which talks about bad web design. I found most of the 10 points to be quite true. I found point 9 (Frozen Layouts with Fixed Page Widths) to be a little weird. Personally, I prefer fixed width websites, this way everything is always in the same spot regardless of...

    Too Good to be true???

It is possible that you could get busted for it, it is pretty unlikely. This really depends more on your cable company than anything else, as all the cable companies handle this differently. When I had Charter they would not release customer information on the first couple offenses and would...

Unless you really have a good reason to run Win98, then I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. Go with 2K, XP or 2003 Server. Personally, I run 2003 Server and have been pretty happy with it.

I need an electric space heater...

I'm not at home right now so I can't check my bill. But, most of the bill is racked up with the 8 cent and 3 cent charge based on how many kilowatt-hours have been used. The price of electricity is set by the state of IL (I don't know how other states do it). They basically have to OK any kind...

I need an electric space heater...

I made a couple errors in the above post. The numbers should be 3,600 kilo joules and .0000172 cents per kilo joule instead of mega joules. Same for the electric conversion that I did. Either way the math behind it is correct. For a normal sized home (say 2500 sq ft), in a northern climate...

I need an electric space heater...

This might have changed recently with natural gas prices up ~40% this season. I'm trying to figure this out. I pay 8.275 cents for the first 400 kilowatt-hours of electricity and after that I pay 3.734 cents per kilowatt-hour. 1 Therm costs ~$1.55 and contains 105,480,400 joules or 105,480.4...
