    Fast build on the bench

I think she's basically working from the assumption that expensive, not-free SQL Server is better than free SQL Express, and no matter what I show her, she isn't going to be convinced. But that also means that the cost for her product is going to be massively higher for the database and CALs...

ESX. The reason there's no performance difference is that her application is basically just a web based time card system. Even if 200 people all submitted their forms at once, it's still just maybe 50kB per transaction.

I have four older-ish Gateway notebooks sitting here. They're all T6330us. One of my students bought them gods-know where, but they're in immaculate shape and the idea is that they're going to go to his kids. None of them have hard drives, but they still have the Vista stickers on the bottom...

    Fast build on the bench

I've got an i7 940 in my office right now that I'm trying to use explain to my co-worker why she doesn't need to specify full-blown SQL Server for this application she wrote and wants to re-sell. I basically put in the most ridiculous collection of parts I had on hand, including a 120GB OCZ...

I'm told that the Roku box is the thing to have if for some reason you want to watch sports. I don't know a damned thing about sports but apparently it streams wankball and baseball and stuff. Remote controls for a lot of these things really, really suck.

2 out of 3 disks in raid is considered spares?

Oh. Big, important step to not forget to do: Make sure you copy your partition information for your array with sfdisk before you pull the drive out of the array.

2 out of 3 disks in raid is considered spares?

You could try starting with mdadm --remove /dev/md3 /dev/sdf1 Then re-add mdadm --add /dev/md3 /dev/sdf1 And then assemble again. I'm going to go ahead and guess that you're dealing with a RAID of 5400RPM SATA drives, right?

2 out of 3 disks in raid is considered spares?

You might have to remove /dev/sdf1 from the array and re-add it since it appears that it dropped out of the array.

Let me say that one more time in case anyone missed it: Between Microsoft's new security product and a four year old SAV Corporate install, I have more issues with the people who are using Microsoft's product. Some of that might be the personalities of the people at those workplaces, but at the...

Personally, given the tremendous number of failed 1 - 2TB Seagate drives I've seen, I think it might be a wider issue with the product line and Apple might've just gotten to a tipping point with support issues.

Does Norway have the Death Penalty?

I believe you're failing to understand the distinction between an action which is reversible and one that is not. If the state kills an innocent man, it has no mechanism with which to repair the harm caused by doing so, and it has in effect committed murder as well as a miscarriage of justice...

I think MSE is a lousy product. Likewise, I see absolutely no reason for anyone to install a third party firewall...

Does Norway have the Death Penalty?

Well, yes and no. Capital Punishment cases consume vast resources in the legal system. There are actually jurisdictions in the US that refuse to try them just because they're so expensive in terms of legal resources. The other thing is, death is permanent and irrevocable. Legal mistakes are...

The one and only time I was angry enough to actually see red, I suspect I was on the ragged edge of passing out. I felt completely disembodied. I hurt a couple people. They both deserved it, but having that experience was enough for me to make a huge change in my personality.

Does Norway have the Death Penalty?

Civilized countries do not have a death penalty. Actually, as I recall from a documentary on the subject, penal systems in Scandinavian countries are progressive to an almost hyperbolic degree. But with any luck, the bomber will get put someplace unpleasant and never see daylight again.

That does not surprise me even a tiny little bit, based on my experiences with Hitachi drives in RAID generally, and with recent Seagate 5k drives in various types of arrays. The Hitachi drives are also the cheapest 3TB drives available right now. So that's working for them, too.
