First time working with a model* *in the loosest terms. There was a human, I gave her directions, she was inconvenienced but did it anyway. I think that counts.

    Cyberdefender

These guys. Picked up a client that was running it (with a full subscription) and it was killing their computers performance. Combofix removed it completely without even asking. A quick Google brought up very little, including them suing consumer advocates for slander. What I need to decide...

    Real innovation

I do agree that using electricity is the way to do things. Essentially all the other solutions are just energy storage anyway. Batteries (or supercapacitors) are the future, because they are the easiest way to store electricity.

    That will make JTR drool

That is really cool. I have no idea what I would do with one, but I want to build one ;)

I actually like the beat-up look. Otherwise it would look fake. I first tried with a dirtier one, but then it gets gross at that magnification. I was manipulating the coin by hand, so it took more shots than it should. I think 27 was the final number.

Someone actually wanted a giant quarter printed very large (48"x48"). I've uploaded a smaller (100MP version). Fun project.

    Finally got the toaster working...

So it isn't the toaster. Either the cables, the L-bracket, or a config issue on the motherboard. What happens when you swap both ends of the cables, does the "good" one move or no?

    Finally got the toaster working...

If you swap the two eSATA cables, does the other one work?

That would be smaller quantities, and smaller-scale problems.

LCDs are another product with a long, complex supply chain that has, at least once a year, been convicted of price fixing or other market manipulations.

To be honest, a hydrogen tanker rupturing in the ocean and spilling it's entire load would be much better then an oil tanker doing the same. Edit: Just had a vision of using dirigibles to transport the gas...neat ;)
  15. ddrueding

    Real innovation

Because they were considering exporting Hydrogen, IIRC.

Google: Do No Evil or Beginning of the End?

Hardly. Wireless bandwidth actually is more expensive, so a compromise there is more reasonable.

    That will make JTR drool

You bet. All else being equal, dealing with an emergency at a station is best for any subway accident.

I am a big fan of this technology. Who was it that wanted to go from NYC to London in a semi-floating vacuum tunnel?
  21. ddrueding

    >500GB Drives

Indeed. I suspect some market manipulation is going on so they can milk this thing.

Off? I just unplug it. I don't know how it could use drivers, only the power connections are even wired to anything.

Battery prices in general, not just for those things.

    Finally got the toaster working...

The molex connector on the back is so you can directly connect a hard drive without a toaster. It is a bit of a kludge, to be honest, so I just use the toasters.

While Greg was here, we were working both slots of the toaster pretty hard. I had a USB fan blowing across both drives.

Thanks for the tips. I got the TC (and the lens, for that matter) because it gives me a capability I didn't have before. Not sure what I'll use it for, or even if I'll like it, but now I can find out. What are your favorite macro subjects and techniques?

Google: Do No Evil or Beginning of the End?

Am I being naive to believe that they are, in fact, not having these negotiations? Or that Verizon is trying to start a dialog and Google wouldn't have any of it? Google is one of the major winners in a neutral internet.

    Real innovation

In China, particularly in Shenzhen, the space between the lanes is where the bikes and motorcycles are. Pedestrians cross the road all over the place, simply finding gaps in the slow (<25mph) traffic. The reason this works is because every vehicle, bike, and pedestrian constantly varies their...

    Real innovation

That is a neat idea. For that purpose, it wouldn't need to move quickly, or have as many stations, or have as many routes through the city.

    Real innovation

It would be laughed at not because it isn't a good idea, but because it is far from a perfect one. That will be the cause of some nasty accidents. It will most likely be worth it, but that doesn't fly in countries that elect their leaders and watch every accident on the news.

More elegant, but much slower, and more likely to fail. I have a couple dozen netbooks out there, and have already had 4 go bad.

What's the verdict on Windows 7?

I don't experience these pauses, and there is a significant gap between "significantly slower" and "not faster".

What's the verdict on Windows 7?

7 Ultimate everywhere. Currently deploying 7 Pro for everyone at work. Very easy to install, not significantly slower than XP for normal stuff.

High speed and time lapse in one camera?

Ah, the best of them will do 1000FPS! At a resolution of 224x56. Even at 420FPS it can only do 224x168.

High speed and time lapse in one camera?

That actually sound pretty demanding to me. My 7D will only do 60fps, and it cost thousands. To get it to do time-lapse requires a computer. What have you found so far?
