That picture was taken at about 10:30 in the morning, and is facing north-northwest. The house itself is on a 45-degree angle, with the road going from NW to SE and the house built squared to it.

The windows in the top-left quadrant of this picture (that would be west) are only the bathrooms and have privacy glass. Good thing, or they would see the storage shed and heatpump exchanger. The panels need to be a minimum distance from the sides and top of each roof plane to prevent lift...

Running only 20MP from a FF sensor is one way to get good low-light performance. It also lets you get high FPS numbers. I'm most impressed by the 4k@60FPS video mode; last I checked that was a RED thing (or GoPro, but you know what I mean).

4.5M$ Bonus for 15 Consecutive Quarters Slide

I held quite a few individual stocks along with ETFs through most of last year (actually managed a positive return in 2015, a hard thing to do. Thanks Amazon!), but sold out mid-December. I had a feeling it wouldn't be pretty, but I had no idea how bad it would get.

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

None of my recent fixtures are at my place, but JTR did wire up an LED conversion for an antique chandelier years ago. The LEDs are at the top of where the "candles" are and shine directly upward with no diffusion. From any place below the plane of the LEDs there is no visible source of the...

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

LEDs are effectively point sources. If you don't have a lot of them you should consider either diffusion or indirect light. A lot of the fixtures I'm putting in lately are designed to throw against a wall or ceiling. The two bedside lights I'm putting together mount into the ceiling, but are...

    Why are chargers so lame?

And for flights, I haven't even tried to check batteries, so I wouldn't be able to tell you. The craziest I've done is bring about 15lbs of LiIon batteries in carry-on for United; security didn't even look twice.

    Lots of Snow

Clearing snow from a roof or solar panels is as easy as heating them from underneath. Perhaps run a coil of water/antifreeze under the panels/roof and route the other end far enough underground to find non-freezing temperatures? As far as living away from people, I think it has more to do with...

(keyboard rebuilt) Making all my appliances electric is the start of figuring out how to go completely off-grid.
