I've been accepted to Medical School!

Hey all - you may have noticed that I haven't been around much since June. I have been heavily distracted by applying to medical school. In the US, admission basically requires a bachelor's degree, you tend to apply to man y schools (I applied to 20), and you need to apply about a year in...

Really, really stupid error messages of our time

speaking of mail clients....quick question: I use Outlook 2002. I need to use my work's outgoing SMTP server, but can't check my ISP's email (attbi.com) at work - I think because of the firewall we run. Is there anyway I can get Outlook to not give an error message when at work (and it can't...

    Windows XP Prefetch Control

The Lions? The Lions? Ug. But hey, at least they're not the Vi-queens. Ok, but to prefetch - interesting. Thought I'd wonder why MS would include that service if it didn't improve performance. Is it in Win2K? Perhaps that's one reason why XP is more resource intensive.

Gotta love Dell for their Inspiron 8200 deal of this week.

ah, suppose I should include the negatives about the i8200. 1. Weight. This is a heavy notebook. Be warned. 2. I find the location of the DVD and ethernet and modem plugs inconvenient. The ethernet is in front of the DVD, so I have to avoid the RJ45 to put a CD into the drive. 3. I...

Gotta love Dell for their Inspiron 8200 deal of this week.

I'm very happy with my i8200 as well - P4M 2.0 GHz, 256MB RAM (single stick, will upgrade to 512 if I feel like it), 40GB 5400 RPM drive, GF2Go 32 MB DDR, etc etc. I'd bet that the current deal is designed to move the older plastic case i8200s out so they can start shipping the magnesium alloy...

I used to be the same way, until I used Crucial's memory selector forr my Tyan Tiger MP. They shipped some memory which woudldn't work properly. . They said it wasn't certified to run on the board (at the time), yet their memory selector (online) still recommended their memory. Ug. Now I...

    Best Used Laptop

From the people I've talked with, it seems IBM has a reputation for high quality stuff (though often expensive) - good manuals, good design, durable stuff. I know a guy who travels alot (4-6 days/week out of town) and works for a large company that gets loads of Compaq laptops, and he swears...

Is this Dell worth the money?

wait a second...Celerons are up to 1.7+ GHz...perhaps the 1.2 GHz Celeron is the older P3-based Celeron that performs half way decently....tempting for my parents...and they wouldn't mind a server case.

Is this Dell worth the money?

seems going with the 1.13GHz P3 Tualatin costs an exta $100 over the 1.2 GHz Celeron....if you're going for a budget box perhaps the savings are worth it. My parents need a new desktop...tempting.
  34. Adcadet

Is this Dell worth the money?

on the other hand, for probably about $200 you could but parts for your case, NIC, graphics card, etc. And aren't the 1.2GHz Celerons the new P4 celerons which perform really really really poorly? I'd have taken the 1.13GHz P3 anyday. In fact, I bet a 1GHz P3 Celeron would be faster than...
