Most powerful half-height PCI-E graphic card.

I have found this review to be particularly helpful. The cards tested there are those most computer shops sell the most (the low-end to mainstream ones). I've found an HD 2400XT made by PowerColor that is in low profile format. I think that's the card I'll end up putting in the SlimPC...

    Best movie you've seen

I think it is the second best of the serie, just behind the original. I don't think it is possible to own the electronic networks like the evil guys did though. I'm sure there are way more things that have to be done manually than what's controlled remotely in the movie.
  3. CougTek

Most powerful half-height PCI-E graphic card.

I own an X1600 Pro and it scores ~1750 3D Mark'06. What I read on the Net was that the HD 2400 Pro scores ~1250 3D Mark'06 and the 8400GS scores ~1600 3D Mark'06. The X1550 Pro is slower than my X1600 Pro, but I don't think it is by much. I suppose it must scores between 1400 and 1600 3D...

What's wrong with the point attribution for the SMP units? I completed one well in time for the 9pm update yesterday, but I still haven't been credited for it (probably a 1760 points unit). I see SMP units in the stats of others, but somehow my last one wasn't rewarded. I'll go bitch about it...

Most powerful half-height PCI-E graphic card.

Thanks. I'll see if I can get this card here. It's a little on the expensive side though. An X1550 with 128bit memory should perform more or less like a 8400GS, a tad better than a HD 2400 Pro.
  9. CougTek

Even better : Galaxy 8600GT low-profile. But not available in North America! The world is against me.

Most powerful half-height PCI-E graphic card.

FOUND! : MSI NX8500GT-MTD256EH. HDMI, low-profile and a tolerable 8500GT GPU. I just don't know where I'll find a low-profile bracket for it, but at least half the problem has been solved. Thanks all for your help.

Most powerful half-height PCI-E graphic card.

I'm looking for the fastest 0.5- 8 (half height) PCI-E graphic card currently available. It is for a slimPC that will have to be good enough for casual gaming on a WUXGA display. DVI out is mandatory, HDMI would be nice too, althought I'm not dreaming. Please don't tell me that 0.5 8 card...

    Moving XP to new hardware?

One asshole support guy from Microsoft (named "Jim") refused to let me reactivate the computer of a customer. I told him I'm a technician reinstalling the operating system. He asked me if it was the first time it was activated and I told him I didn't know (how could I? It's not MY computer)...

    Moving XP to new hardware?

You can fake to do an OS repair with an OEM disk. If your install isn't OEM, it won't offer you to repair the OS automatically and will skip that step. Then you can try with a retail or a corporate disk and see if it works. I highly doubt they would have given you a corporate license, so it's...

    AMD price cuts 7-9-07

I haven't seen anything making me believe that a C2Q can produce more than twice what an X2 6000+ can do on FAH. Also, I doubt the 30% advantage that 4MB L2 cache Core 2 units have over the 2MB version. If that was the case, Bozo (who has a 3.2GHz Core 2 Duo with 4MB L2 cache) would be running...

    AMD price cuts 7-9-07

My supplier told me the price cut was scheduled for the 12th of July, not the 9th. I'm glad the A64 X2 6000+ will fell like this : I still have an unsold Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro heatsink on my tablet. The 6000+ dissipates quite a lot and the Freezer 64 Pro will be put to good use soon...

U/Ku/Xubuntu is my favorite Linux distribution. Easy to install, easy to upgrade with aptget, nice layout, overall quite good. Still not mature enough IMO to let average users mess with it, but close. My major gripe with it (and most other Linux distribution) is that updating applications...

    Phenom B2 stepping hits 2.8GHz.

In the computer forum, your word has some value. But for unreleased products, it isn't about your word but only about who/what you read. It's not like you had an X2600 in your hands to test yourself. In this case, your source was more accurate than mine, but that isn't always the case. For...

    Took a chance

Weird. It took less time to complete a FAH frame when the FSB was at 284MHz then it is taking now with the FSB at 300MHz. RAM timings are supposed to be the same. Not fun. Orthos ran for at least two, if not three hours (I forgot about it and did something else meanwhile) without giving me...

    Gigabyte's S775 Motherboard lineup

Current DDR3 modules have high latencies and that make them no faster than high-end, but still cheaper DDR2 memory sticks. DDR3 = next year. This year, you'll pay the big price only to get small results.

    Took a chance

How much time do you test each frequency in order to determine that it's stable? Half-an-hour of Orthos should be enough, isn't it? Otherwise, it will take an insane amount of time to determine what's the maximal stable frequency of a setup. My previously unoverclockable E6400 is now...

I don't know, but I've seen Directron around for quite a while now. They are at least 7 years old, probably more. I never ordered there however. Last time I checked, they didn't ship to Québec. You probably have small computer shops near you that sell the Freezer 7 Pro. It is pretty popular.

    More Vista nonsense

There are no such things as a Vista clean install. All Vista installations end up being dirty. Vista had more updates since its launch day then XP during the same period. I'm pretty sure the CHKDSK mess has nothing to do with the health of the drive. Fushi probably just found bug #124327 of...
