Sophos AV - a disaster in waiting

I encounter stuff like that pretty regularly, at least as far as IT spending by nonprofits goes. It's often because they have grant money they're allowed to spend on technology purchases and can't use for other things. I don't know if that's the case here, and yes the consulting firm did take...

4G wifi access for a month in Florida

Clear's tech underlies Sprint's older 4G offering. I'm under the impression that reception on it is spotty, mostly on the basis of where I have to be in Chicago to be able to connect to it on my phone. ORD? Yes. Midway? No. Inside the Loop? Maybe. South of the museum campuses? Not happening...

    Pope Hangs It Up?

I find faith to be perversely admirable in people I suspect are otherwise intelligent and rational. At the same time, I also think that for the vast majority of believers, faith is the result of youthful brainwashing or a weak-minded reaction to a troubled life. I can't conclude the same things...

Granted, there are file trading communities all over the place. The thing that made Demonoid interesting was that it was well-curated and full of otherwise unique content. NNTP and most torrent sites aren't terribly well organized but Demonoid absolutely was, which made it a lot more rewarding...

Colbert actually did some pretty interesting stuff with that last night as well. His guest was particularly interesting: a person who says he's a practicing Catholic who wants the notion of clergy to be abolished. Religious people are weird.

4G wifi access for a month in Florida

In the US, your 4G options at present are either AT&T or Verizon (Sprint is still transitioning to LTE and coverage is sparse at best). Verizon is probably the better option since its coverage is almost certainly better in my experience, but Verizon equipment is essentially Verizon-only and not...

You're not allowed to route the same address pool on both the source and destination ports of a router, which is probably what's going on with your setup. You can probably get away with assigning the Linksys to have a static address like 192.168.1.250 and turn of its built-in DHCP server...

The cheapo Rosewill/SiL 8-bay enclosure won't make an array with more than 5 drives, even in RAID1, and Intel Southbridge RAID doesn't offer the option to do RAID5 unless you're using a Server version of Windows for no good reason I can think of. OK, it's worth it to hunt down an SVHS VCR that supports S-video output. Those are going to be the Rolls Royces of VCRs in the first place, but between far better tape heads and just generally better output from S-Video, you'll get a much cleaner transfer. You'll need a Video Capture device...

It may very well be that the the disk controller's CPU is swamped with the extra parity calculations that come from the 4th drive. JMI controllers are very low cost parts and it just wouldn't shock me if that's the case. Those graphs were from a Perc5 or Perc6, right? That's not exactly an...

I really don't see why MS doesn't shave $100 off current pricing for Surface devices. They're selling a whole ecosystem against a couple different ecosystem.
