Well, it's working great so far. I've managed to cap using MMC and filtered using VDub (FlaXen filter). The DVD authoring I will do on another PC, this box doesn't have a burner capable of DVD+R (older set-top compatible). Thanks for all the help!

Well, I wouldn't feel too bad about two arrays of two in RAID0. At least you're only doubling your chance of failure.

    Building a Storage Server Thread

That's what I've heard as well. A RAID0 for working and a RAID1 for storage would probably be the best way. Depends if that controller supports the "striped read" of RAID1 arrays.

SUper Mario 3 beat in 11 minutes

I just got back from my soon-to-be brother-in-law's house. He has Nintendo, SNES, N64, and Gamecube (with GB/GBA emulator) all wired in his living room right now. Listening to GB games on surround sound is...intersting. He's especially proud of his comprehensive collection of Zelda games. :)

Is MMC the app that comes with the AIW cards? Is vDub and VirtualDub the same thing? I'll be checking out those apps and I'll get back to you. I have Ulead MovieFactory, it came with something I've bought.... CityK, are the apps you referenced freely available?

I have a similar question. I already have an ATI AIW VE (PCI) that I want to throw in it's own machine and to VHS capture via S-Video/Stereo and convert to DVD. What software should I be using to do: Capture? Encoding (MPEG-2)? Authoring? Burning? Is there one app that will do all of this...

Back on subject......and to make this a long one.... From when I was born until I was 16 I had one friend. Just one, so did he. We were lucky that we met each other, because no one else was like us (or liked us for that matter). When I was 16 got asked out to a dance by a girl whose name I'd...

Just about anything would be faster, but cheaper? This thing has everything integrated for $123. Tack on the added reliability bonus of not requireing a CPU fan; this means any fan failures would not instantly kill the system.

Perhaps this would be a more effective use of our time if we set the requirements for the 3 levels and went from there: Base level: 1TB+ redundant storage, 100Mbps ethernet, $2000 (hardware only) Mid-Level: 2TB+ Redundant storage (expandable using current drives to 3TB+), GigE*, $4000...

    Building a Storage Server Thread

Well, it depends (again) on what we're looking for. If this is just a file server, than putting some extra cash towards the storage components seems appropriate. Having a server in a headless configuration makes powering down/up the system more difficult. Howerver, I wouldn't mind having a...

VRM is another feature that is nice and expensive. I thought we were looking at a SOHO server? IMO, some things are worth the added cost: -True hardware RAID -SATA with hotswap enclosures -Seperate controller for OS drives And some come at too high a price for an "entry level" file server...

I don't know where you're getting that impression (besides the fact that my desktop has the same mobo/CPU). Building a base-level server with that mobo is going to be difficult. 32-bit PCI is a limitation, but if you can get by with it, you can save some cash.
