i agree. That is why I run IIS 3.0 on my NT server. All the bugs that are going to be found probably have been found... it's not very hard to secure... and once I set it up correctly I won't have to worry about updating my server on a day-to-day basis.

Hey all... I seem to ahve done something to my computer... or apache.. im not really sure... Apache used to serve Any/All ports and now it only seems to serer 80 and 443 (SSL).... I tried to make a virtual host on port 100 and my computer doesn't seem to be running a server on port 100...

I've never seen that.... I guess you could always goto USB as an alternative (You can get a ps/2 keyboard/mouse to USB connector so you dont actually have to replace the keyboard for a reletively low sum)

there is a site that lists every service that comes with windows and its function.. it has a list of what is/is not enabled by default and what *should* be enabled/disabled... it seems to be down right now, but you might want to chck it before permenantly disabling anything or for bug tracing...

i wasn't sure what everyone was talking about... I just went to the folder where IE temps wre stored and deleted index.dat.. no fuss no muss... then I tried to do it on another computer and was baffled that it was so hard.... I think i was able to delete it so easily because I did not store IE...

of course, if you're using smoothwall... your firewall is probably perfectly capable of running an FTP server given that it has a routable IP address...

Those 7200 RPM units are going to be way outside most users' budgets... laptop hdd's are gaining everyday I check... access times are lowering, data density is increasing.. and power consumption is still staying at reletively low levels.... it's amazing.

Lots of people have problems with ICQ/MSN/AOL behind firewalls.. I have a hardware firewall and cannot get incoming file transfers to work well... outgoing seem to work fine. I assume this might just be a matter offorwarding but it seems that icq may not be consistant in the ports it uses for...

Get the IBM tools Zap or Wipe, they will write zero's to the hard drive and will erase any MBR problem you're having. Wipe does the whole hdd: http://service.boulder.ibm.com/storage/hddtech/wipe.exe zap does the 1st part of teh Hdd including the MBR...
