Immich is self-hosted media catalog that includes optional components for recognizing faces and locations. It can run on a Synology NAS. Sounds right up your alley. As far as removing equipment, almost all my data is on tapes that are kept both locally and at my parents' home. If I had to...

LM was definitely the Doogie Howitzer of convenient political target removals. While his early career largely revolved around single-targets that were avowed enemies of the Carter Administration and in support of British rule in southeast Africa, he quickly moved on to large-scale political...

This is of course exactly what the point man for a deep state Globalist kill team operator would have us believe, that the civilian employee of a company that is related to other companies would have nothing to do with the goings-on of late-70s Rhodesia and collapse of leftist popular...

I'd definitely isolate storage from services, but my home systems tend to be the leftovers from past workstations like my Threadripper. and in that case I most often have computers that have both a lot of CPU cores AND tons of available IO, because that's what I prioritize in my workstation systems.

For the most part, "Server" means running either Windows Server or some Linux, *BSD or Solaris-derived operating system. I guess Hackintoshes as well, but most people don't think of MacOS that way. Windows Server is technically expensive, but not really because key resellers are a thing. The...

It seems to me that motherboard OEMs aren't particularly motivated to break out PCIe lanes. My x670e has some of that, in only having one PCIe 5 m.2, but I don't see why we couldn't get MUCH more flexible x4 PCI 3 slots instead of borderline useless x1 PCIe 5 lanes. I suppose that's another form...

It is surprisingly quiet. 5. The guy I got it from was only looking for $350. Even given the low regard AMD cards have...

Apparently, we're getting an updated DIMM standard, CUDIMMs, with Arrow Lake and probably eventually on AM5. This chassis is a pretty interesting option; it allows for two ITX systems in 2U of space. It looks like your chosen HSF needs the extra clearance, although it'd probably be fine in a rack since there's no other major source of heat in that thing. What you have now is pretty interesting in a...

This is the replacement for your Xeon system, right? Is this a PC you'll ever sit at? My first thought would be something like a Silverstone SST-CS351. You could run one of those 1-to-6 m.2 to SATA adapters and give your VMs their own drives plus a couple spinny boys for bulk storage needs...

I don't think anyone I work with even cares what I have. Mainly, there's an R6 and an R7. I have old bodies and action cams that mostly get used for fairly passive video recording. My partner just wants my R6 because she borrows it all the time anyway.

The list I saw for impacted models was the SN5000, 580 and 770. I'm assuming the 850 is in the clear, other than the questionable idea of using a WD drive for booting in the first place.

I'll just add that to the other $140 worth of cables I need to buy. I'm actually surprised at how reasonable fiber is now. I remember paying $75/m for ST-ST patch cables back in the day and here I am getting just over 60m of cables for not quite double that.
