    Ever deepening hatred for WD

No WD for me, simply because the wholesaler doesn't have them. Like the people (and apes) down under, I only use Samsung these days for all IDE needs. Problem free, in all aspects. And being very quiet is a great plus for them. Oh, one more thing, they cost less than the others. For my...

This is getting ridiculous. Modern web-sites are starting to have so many advertisements and java thingies, that they are beginning to be slow on multiple gigahertz computers with 10-100Mb/s lines! Just take anandtech or any other of there "popular" sites. Jeez.... I've just downloaded...

    SMC 8505T GIGe switch

A very clean and nice looking unit on the inside. I took one of the fans power connector off the motherboard, but it didn't help so much in lowering the noise. The unit has been running all night, so I'll check how warm it is when I get home. With 2 fans the unit and the heatsinks inside were...

    Pure FTPd problems

For me, to get the connection to work, that "-P IP-ADDRESS" was the most important one. That controlls the address sent to the client, and is the "return" address for future packets. Without it pure-ftpd just sends it's local ip address to the clients outside your network (192.168....). -S is...

Hmmm, maybe I'll just boot with a Knoppix CD, put netperf on a floppy and try the GIGe nic on my MSI Nforce2 mobo........? At the moment I have win2k with it, and still haven't installed NFS on it, so only SMB testing with it so far.

    SMC 8505T GIGe switch

Anyone used these? I got it home last night, it's an 8 port model with VLAN and stuff. Only problem is, it uses 2*40mm fans at one side to keep it cool (it's not even warm when I touch it) and the fans ARE VERY LOUD! I'll probably disconnect one fan today and see if it helps, so that the unit...

ftp working with linux clients but not windows clients.

ftp working with linux clients but not windows clients.

As to my speed with the GIGe network at home, linux to linux with NFS tcp gives me about 22MB at the moment. SMB gives me about half of that from windows to linux.

ftp working with linux clients but not windows clients.

I can post my script when I get home tonight, that should work ok for you also. Hmm, I haven't used the -N (or is it -n) myself, but that should also help if one has problems with NAT. ....hmmm..you say the connection was working once? What happens when you telnet to that port? Do you get in?

ftp working with linux clients but not windows clients.

After a quick glance, -S OUTSIDE-IP, seems to be missing. That is needed when you are behind a NAT.
