As far as I can tell, those cards are sold out EVERYWHERE. Apparently the next big news is the next generation Ryzen Pro AI Max nonsense-whatever APUs, which supposedly exceed a discrete mobile RTX 4060 in overall performance. I guess if there's one good thing about planet-killing AI energy...

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

Adobe is apparently increasing the price of its baseline Photography plan from $10/month to $15/month for users paying monthly. It's still $20/month to get the 1TB plan monthly and $120 for the plan if it's billed annually. I think Lightroom Classic + Photoshop is the cheapest package deal it...

Turns out Battlemage actually adds more advanced chroma support compared to Arc. 12-bit HEVC 444 is something you normally only find on cine cameras, not consumer mirrorless models, but it's there on the spec sheet. Sweet.

It looks to me like the GPU is momentarily spiking to very high utilization if I'm doing subject sharpen/face detection/noise removal. It happens if I feed even one image to Topaz AI and stays at nearly full load until it runs out of images to process. This might be an AMD driver thing; I don't...

I have decided that my RX 6900XT is too loud and I kind of hate when it spins up for just a minute while I send 50 pictures through Topaz Photo AI and it's briefly the loudest thing in the room. I'm kind of thinking that I could wire tie some 120mm fans to the existing heat sink, but I'm not...

An offline MP3 player in 2024?

There's still an entire world of portable players that don't say Apple on them. I carried a Sandisk Clip+ in my pocket for YEARS because they handled oddball formats like .ogg. They also stored progress in media files, which was great since mine had the entirety of "This American Life" on it.

This is a DAS rather than a NAS but you can get an Orico 5 bay USB C (10Gb) 3.5" drive enclosure on Ebay sold direct by the OEM for $135 right now. That's a pretty good setup for your ITX PC or local, HDD-only backup system.

I hear just enough sobbing from people who have Synology devices that it's too complicated to do X on one of those that I think there could be a real market for somebody willing to put together a turnkey package with something like HexOS at its core and maybe a JonsBro NAS chassis as a...

Since you're dealing with software or quasi-software RAID and RAID0 at that, I don't think using a non-identical drive matters all that much. You're going to lose data if the array craps out and it's not like you're going to be worried about rebuild time or firmware oddities in your use case.
