I have a X64 WS2008 install on a Hd that has developed bad blocks and has become unusagble. I have an image backup of drive C: (from X64 WS2008 backup); WS2008 x32/x64 original media; and a replacement HD. The problem seems to be booting to the repair option of the original media boots to x32 which won't read the x64 backup image.

I must be having an extended "senior" moment, because I have yet to be able to figure out a solution. Any suggestions?

It appears that this is a well known issue. Microsoft's suggestion is to DL a x64 trial/beta and boot to that. On the other hand, as far as I can tell, Microsoft only supplies dual-media versions for DL. what a pain...

Crazy. I haven't used WS2008 yet. I'm not feeling the need to change from 2003 (I still have a pair of 2000 servers around here).

Well, I dug up an old pre-release copy of WS2008 X64 beta and its restore worked fine. It is impressively fast.

I am omnipresent
Technet has downloads of an x64-only ISO. I have no idea what the retail/OEM media sets are like. Are they dual format?
