I'm having trouble getting audio to come out at my TV when I play youtube or Hulu video over HDMI from my laptop. Strangely I can play system sounds or iTunes just fine. Any ideas?

Does something like Netflix or MSNBC (which uses Silverlight and not Flash) work OK? It would make sense to isolate the issue to Flash vs. something like your display driver.

Other thoughts might be whether certain apps are respecting your "default playback device" setting, or how many audio channels the source is trying to play?

So I've now seen that WINDVD will push out audio with the video just fine. I'm having trouble finding any silverlight videos.

Netflix is native Silverlight unless you changed the preferences in your profile.
MSNBC streaming videos are also Silverlight-based.

My laptop seems to have been in a flash limbo. After a reboot it wanted to update flash after which audio started working in chrome. I uninstalled flash and chrome kept working as expected.
