    mATX Rebuild

I built a system about 4 years ago with a 6700K on a Z270 micro board with 16GB of RAM and a 250GB Samsung 960. The user was adamant about keeping the Windows 7, which I painfully migrated from an older computer. Now Windows 7 is obsolete and I'm thinking about the upgrade plan. There are...

    Windows 11

I missed the removal of Help in some old 32-bit programs that otherwise run fine from XP to 7. In the MS mentality, built-in Help is a high security risk whereas going online is not. Depending on your hardware, you may also lose printer or scanner functionality if the product maker does...

    Windows 11

A lot of software requires 10 or at least 8.1. It will only get worse when 11 is out. IIRC Intel 6th gen and 200 series chipset was the last to run Win 7 naturally, without hacking on the drivers, etc. Are you happy with using old hardware with 7 forever?

The 486 DX-50 was not rare as far as I recall. There was a small room full of them at one site in the early 90s. Heavy lifting was done by a couple of Alpha (DEC) systems that the likes of me were not allowed to touch. I had to use a 386. Nobody in MIS would buy any x86 systems that were not...

    Android phones: Tips, tricks?

We have to use MS TEAMs for everything. IMs are supposedly only for non-substative, brief communications, but people keep sending long messages anyway. My phone is buzzing day and night about something ridiculous because people in Americas, Europe, or Asia are commenting on some recurring...

That's rather a tautology. :p I am totally naive to video cards of significant power, since I never cared for video games. This 3060 TL is the first that has a power input. Now normal software makes use of the video cards, somehow. I tried several benchmarks listed above, including OCCT, the...

I finally found a video card that was not too price gouged nor too large to fit in exactly 2 slot widths. It is only the 3060 TL OC with two fans, but certainly much better than what I had. I had to find a cable to connect it to the power supply. What do you use to stress test the GPU...

I don't know how large you print or whatever else you do with the output. 21MP was great back in 2007, but I don't want anything less than 30MP since 2016. The original R had the right MP, but everything else was too low grade and the first round of the technology. The issue with the R3 is...

That would be me. I have a late 2018 Moto 5+ and it works fine at a third or less the price of the iPhones. The Moto's Andorids are no longer active so I don't know how long the OS will hold up to app updaters. The battery is at 95% of 5Ah. I charge it to NMT 80% when possible to preserve...

Why are you using SMR drives, when the write performance and longevity are poor? I don't think any various software workarounds will make the array fast once the CMR buffers are full. I'm also not so fond of the SSD buffer for large files and single users. Get as much RAM as you can as that...

No, they are not ending sales. There will be no new cameras designed/introduced. Some cameras like the Nikon F6 were produced for more than a decade after digital cameras appeared. The big problem is the lack of new lens designs or inferior lens designs that don't replace the old ones. Some...

I use the Sony CFe cards in the R5, but I suppose the R6 can more easily get by with SDxC UHS-II cards. I suggest that you think and plan more, and learn to shoot less. That will save time and you will obtain better results in the long run.
