Why is the site always slow?

For less than the price of colo we could manage another business-class internet connection at your place, and even manage some redundancy. If we were able to take the hosting cost and responsibility off Doug, and some of the others can help him with the admin stuff, and make the site stupid...

    USB 3.0 Cases

Sorry for the late response; been out for the day. Nothing in a year. Mainly stupid BIOS defaults and a board that wouldn't support the latest CPU without a BIOS update that required installing a functioning CPU...just a pain.

That is indeed an awesome build. Funny you should post that, I was configuring something similar at the same time ;) I'm still allergic to ASUS, though.

Not sure what to call it? We already have a "changes..." thread as well? Perhaps "2011 refresh"?

Why is the site always slow?

We can start discussing ways to make it easier for Doug and faster for all of us. Require registration to start with an e-mail to a mod? Colo a dedicated server? I'm assuming the bulk of the admin duties are dealing with SPAMers? This place is important to me. I would happily send $10-25/mo to...

Why is the site always slow?

Well, I'm sure many here would be happy to contribute to keep the place alive (as many have in the past). I would volunteer my services to keep the place running, but I do not have the necessary skills. Perhaps additional steps could be taken to reduce the workload?

Sorry to hear that (twice). Medical issues?

SSDs - State of the Product?

Honestly, the OCZ boards still have an SATA interface between the flash and the RAID controller, but it is optimized better than I could do it, and the install is so darn clean.

This is of course very sound advice. What I would like to set up is a bootable partiton on the mechanical drive that is the rescue disk with an automated restoration script (with a single "OK" prompt of course).

    Why must TV forsake me?

My wife has never seen any Star Trek. I'm considering doing the chronological thing; starting with the newest movie, the highlights of the original series (tribbles, etc), the first movies, some episodes of TNG, not sure. She did Star Wars 1-6 for the first time in chronological order as well.

SSDs - State of the Product?

You can jump into the RevoDrive pool with me; they are very fast. OCZ is a liability, I understand that, but it hasn't bitten me yet, and I have at least 15 of these things.
  21. ddrueding

SSDs - State of the Product?

I suspect that they have found very few people will pay appropriately more for a higher-quality drive. It simply isn't something that the OC/tweaker/fanboi crowd cares about. The rest of us get to choose between flakey mediocrity and super expensive enterprise stuff.

They only got into the SSD game because everyone else was making real crap. I don't know why they are in there now.

The cheapest if you have time and need more than a few is to get a small miter box and some long frame stock. Taking it to the next level and cutting some glass yourself isn't as challenging as it sounds.

It's 34 degrees, and snowing outside, in Northern Kalifornia???WTF?

I saw the snow, and then checked the thermometer. At that point, it wasn't sticking anywhere, but you could tell what it was as it fell. It never got below freezing, but there was still some accumulation (a few mm) on roofs and in the grass at one point.

50F mid-afternoon. Then it started snowing. Then the temp dropped 15F in 30 minutes. An hour later it stopped snowing and came back to 55F before the sun set.

So far done 5 machines. 2 were flawless, one disabled the add-on video card and went back to the onboard, one can no longer access terminal servers that aren't on it's own subnet, and one went into a BSOD cycle (safe mode too). It seems to be a bit fussy.

Random tip. If you buy the super-cheap Office Home and Student 2010 key card (no disk), the disk from an Office Home and Business 2010 will work fine, and give you 30-day trials of the rest of the software.

I would agree, B3, except that so many manufacturers are just using the reference design, even the cooling system. All my GTX580s use a better cooling system, but that is the exception.
