Just confirm that your main build will boot with the other drives removed. Then boot into a Linux LiveCD and kill off the folders that you want.

I believe we did. I've always found troubleshooting compatibility issues with it not worth the hassle.

Considering swapping my 17-40/4 for a 16-35/2.8. Losing the long end would suck, but the extra speed would be great.
