Televisions as monitors: What are you using, and why?

30" might be a little big this location. Something in the 26-27" range with a native res of 1920x1080 and high image quality would be ideal. I suppose I could consider this Viewsonic 27" TV, but after my experience here I am tempted to go back to monitors.

Televisions as monitors: What are you using, and why?

Just one more negative thing to say about it; the lag is really bad. I would have blamed it on the PC or not noticed it at all, but having both screens mirrored off the HDMI splitter side-by-side makes it really apparent. Another attribute to look into when buying my next screen.

Televisions as monitors: What are you using, and why?

Newegg, just more trouble than it is worth. It will end up with a client I don't like so much who wasn't going to run it at default resolution anyway. It will likely be at 1280x720 knowing them.

Televisions as monitors: What are you using, and why?

I just tried setting it to the highest resolution in it's EDID (1600x1200) and it looks perfect at "16x9". The box doesn't say 1080p anywhere, but the manual clearly states "Optimal PC resolution is 1620x1080@60Hz". Looks like that simply isn't the case.

Televisions as monitors: What are you using, and why?

Right now I have it on an HDMI mirror with my ASUS monitor. It is being driven at 1920x1080 to the corners of the screen, but the interpolation is obvious. If I set it from "fit" to "16x9" (which I assume is the "1:1" setting), then it blows off all 4 edges of the screen about equally. Telling...

How to make a silk purse from a sow's ear?

It's not that a good server board will last 6+ years, it's that a workstation board that costs less than half as much will run more than half as long, combined with the equally inexpensive replacement being faster. In servers you pay the premium because rebuilding servers, specifically the...

Televisions as monitors: What are you using, and why?

Besides the image quality issues with plasma is the massive power consumption. I'm currently torn between these for my main home computer. I do actually want HDMI to the monitor and a headphone jack on the screen itself, but I should wait until I've sobered up before I actually buy anything.

Samsung Series 6 6000 32" = piece of crap. I have it side-by-side with my cheap ASUS VW246 24", and the Samsung is unusable. 1. Doesn't have 1920x1080 pixels. If you set the screen to "16x9" and give it 1920x1080 it runs way over on the sides. According to the nVidia scaling program, it is...

Unless they have changed in the few years since I stopped buying there, it isn't safe to by anything at the Frys. At one point, there was nothing but returned product on the shelf; as they would simply repackage and restock (without testing) any returns. It wasn't until their third or fourth...

For indoor shots I'm regularly at 800-1600 ISO. The trick is to get a body that can do that without too much noise. Sol's comment about the ultra-narrow DOF at f1.8 is also a valid one. It took me some time with the camera on a tripod using the live-view LCD in a zoomed mode to get the DOF...

I intend to refi as soon as I can, but I need to get the house presentable first. A kitchen and a heater are things that they like to see. ;) I would secure some temporary financing to complete the house if I felt the rates would be going up any time soon, but I don't.

Static pressure is the main problem that the push-pull heatsinks were meant to solve. A few of my 1U server chassis have a bank of squirrel cage fans in them to deal with pushing air through all the cracks.

    Virtual servers? How and why?

In my environment here there are many servers that are nowhere near HDD bound. In fact, they don't really stress anything. Putting them on a single basic box is a direct cost savings. Those that are HDD IO limited can share the rest of the box with these machines so long as they get their own...

    Virtual servers? How and why?

Isolating hard disk IO is important. The easiest way to do it is have a bunch of disks in the server and give the important VMs their own. Same with HBAs if you like, though I don't run into bottlenecks there as much. Distributing your budget across a bunch of servers means each is more likely...

The first thing I would check is to connect the drive to an onboard port and see if you can create a partition. After that try putting the drive back on the controller and I'll bet it can now access it.
