Another mass build and some hardware thoughts

Thanks, I think I'm good. Handy is all the pre-sales I need, and this site combined handles my support needs ;)

Interesting. I've bought many of their products, and even have current service contracts, and I haven't even gotten an e-mail much less a call.

    VMWare Workstation 9 in production?

I'm familiar with this autostart option, it was in VMWare server and ESXi, but seems to be missing from Workstation. I suspect that there is some way to do it via a script of some kind. Snapshots will probably work fine for backups, and can probably also be scripted. Connecting to each machine...

    VMWare Workstation 9 in production?

I do think virtual is the best way in this scenario. An office with 4 full-time employees requires 3 servers as it is currently configured. One of those servers is 2000 and can't be upgraded due to the application on it. Right now my biggest complaint is that one of the VMs is maxing the CPU...

    VMWare Workstation 9 in production?

I have a client with only a few VMs and no full-time support staff. The boss' son is the best I have on site, and he is only familiar with Windows. I'm planning a machine that will be running 7 Pro with VMWare Workstation 9 hosting the production servers. This strikes me as the easiest way to...

It actually is still running, the client wants 64GB of RAM instead of the measly 32GB that is in the box now. Hopefully that will arrive tomorrow. I am not getting all the money I spent for the parts originally, but I am getting current market value for the parts. Lost about $3k I'd imagine; I...

    question No more computers

I'd assume that the VM establishes an encrypted link (VPN?) with the server independent of the host, and maintains its own AV and the like. Not completely secure, but neither is anything else given to a user.

Done. After being the 122nd most productive user (with only one machine) for a while, this machine is finally going down. Coug only needs to make up a bit over a million points to get his spot back.

Budget would be about the same as yours. They would sit on either side of my main monitor (42" LED-LCD TV) so they could be fairly large. Distance from them to my ears would be about 2'. My main interest in having them so close is that it will seem much louder to me than anyone walking past my...

I have an office, and am considering moving the Onkyo NR-808 in there, and have already put in a bunch of acoustic treatment. PC Gaming = World of Suck

It requires the the SDK be installed of your computer to work, and the SDK is only available over steam, but I doubt you would need steam to be running to use the SDK in this capacity.

I agree that PCIe is the better interface for stuff, but this seems like an unnecessary complication. Surely we just need a PCIe cable, and then can hang drives (or GPUs, audio cards, etc) off of it. Why make this specific for drives?

I also like that is has a web-based GUI front-end that is capable of launching a console. When their wireless devices became popular they even released a (free!) client app that was able to monitor and configure many links at once. That would be awesome.

My Toshiba laptop's HDD Protection program keeps getting disabled

I believe that the park/unpark procedure can happen so quickly that it doesn't need to wait for you. It detects a falling (likely low-g) situation and parks until it is stable again and then resumes. The dialog is just telling you it is working, not waiting for you to interact in any way.

Disassembled/Cleaned/Rebuilt the bike tonight, it can be a very zen thing.
