    Why C.A.F.E Standards are Dumb

German POWs were not fully repatriated until the mid-1950s.

SSDs - State of the Product?

Probably not the RAID controller; flash memory write times are longer than read times.

What I miss about the Intel P4...

and what happens to (all but a tiny bit of) the energy stored in the motion and photons? Hint: It has to go somewhere, and it doesn't get converted to matter.

The 3,5 GB RAM limit of Windows

Look here for some info. There are many other more detailed sources of information. Basically, it is not a Windows problem as much as a x86 problem.

    Multiple Video Cards and MPC?

Re: Crashing Sorry, no idea. Re: Secondary video card IIRC (and this was a while ago, so maybe IDRC) I think that I had to change the render mode before it would work on a secondary adapter. Of course I cannot remember what mode worked, just that I fiddled with it. Edit: I also recall...

    My new system

That RAM needs a slight overvoltage - 1.9V. Geil says operating voltages are 1.9V - 2.3V. IIRC, running at 800Mhz with 4-4-4-12 or 3-3-3-10 will provide equivalent or higher performance than 1000Mhz @ 5-5-5-15 (the rated speed of those modules).

Dell Dimension 2400 (not mine) stuck in UDMA-2

    WD greenpower 1TB drive

The spindle speed of greenpower drives does not dynamically vary: "For each GreenPower drive model, WD may use a different, invariable RPM." WDC put out a misleading announcement and people ran with it. The current greenpower page is less misleading...

Motherboards with lots of SATA ports.

IIRC (and I may not) that restriction was in the EULA but not enforced by consumer (non-server) Windows. You'd think that a simple hack or registry edit would lift any limitation...

    Entering the 64bit era

Still having a bad day Time? Your view angle position does not explain the effect handruin describes in the bit I quoted, as the view angle does not change with a simple tilt (or rotation) of the head (at least in humans), as the eyeball moves independently of the noggin and maintains the same...

    Entering the 64bit era

Yes, glasses can have that effect. I'm REALLY nearsighted (more than -12 diopters) so with my lenses I can basically create color separations of images when viewing at an extreme angle through the lenses.

    Newcomers

So long as I'm not considered a stalker, I'm happy. On a work deadline right now, so a just a few quick tidbits about me... Longtime SR reader (I remember the "birth" of Tea and Tannin) who misses the regulars who used to frequent that establishment. The SR S/N ratio is still pretty good, but...
