My family and I had lunch at the local tavern's restaurant today, and across from us were a group of young blokes having lunch and a beer. Nothing strange about this, however one of them had a lot of ice in his beer and was drinking it through a cocktail straw? My wife and I have never seen anyone do this, and thought it was strange... Has anyone else seen this before? And would you agree that's strange?

Furthermore, my wife did see him eat normally and was able to hold his glass fine, so we assume it wasn't due to a disability...

Sounds plausible. On the other hand, I doubt my gums receded the neccessary amount in under 12 hours. I'm going back in March for another cleaning and will mention it and salivary gland and any other possible issue.

Dentist says teeth are 100% fine and the antibiotic I'm taking should have eliminated any sinus infection by now, so I'm at a loss as to the cause of my suddenly occurring toothache pain or a solution.

If the pain doesn't eventually fade away I may have to find a specialists and have some exotic CAT/PET/MRI scan performed. Joy.
Hairline crack for sure. Unfortunately, you just added a zero to the cost.

J/K, sort of, maybe. Exact same thing happened to my daughter. Ended up destroying an otherwise perfectly good tooth to do a root canal. Dentist broke off the end of the drill/tool in the end of the "J" and didn't tell her - he just hoped it would be OK. Expensive scans and three specialists later, they've all advised her to abandon the tooth and go for extraction, because the chances of getting the broken tool fragment out are remote (and about AU$4000).

Moral of the story: save up a lot more and go to a specialist for root canal work. If your dentist can't prove the cause of tooth pain, find another dentist who is happy to send you to a specialist radiography clinic.

    1) Who's working New Year's Day?

My work day starts at 6pm so that barely counts. I'm also not doing any type of celebration on New Year's Eve that would prevent me from making it into work later in the afternoon.

    2) What New Year's traditions/resolutions do you do, or try to do?

I don't do New Year's Resolutions, as I never follow thru with them anyways. No party/celebrations. I have, for the last 30+ years, watch my digital wrist watch flip from: 23:59:59 & 12-31 to: 00:00:00 & 1-1 and listen to gunfire.

Warning : this is a junk post.

Since I had nothing better to do, I ended up on Sploid and saw this. Not being an RC pro, I believe this is fake, like the bear running after a biker video. Why? Despite being quite well made, how can the guy filming the mini-chopper follow it so accurately almost all the time? He would have to be connected to the mind of the pilot to do that.

Do you think it's fake or genuine?

I'd say unlikely it's fake. There are lots of videos on YouTube of similarly crazy RC Heli flying. Random example:

Has anyone had any luck finding a ROG MAXIMUS IX EXTREME motherboard? The monoblock that incorporates the M.2 would be great for an upcoming project. Too soon after CES?

I haven't been looking at something that high end to really know about availability. It looks very nice but is it worth having the all in one water block as apposed to building out your own water cooling and block configuration? Could you use some kind of RAM water block to cool an NVMe m.2 SSD?

Didn't want to make a whole thread looking for one motherboard. m.2 SSDs are generally too close to the board to have the sandwich-style waterblocks fit.

Minimizing the number of connections to help reliability is a good thing.

Is U.2 form factor in a drive bay a consideration?

I never really did any work on that FreeNAS build besides the initial putting together of the hardware and leaving it to rot next to my desk, so I decided to do the next best thing with it and install Windows 7 x86 on it for the sole purpose of running the Lockdown Browser my university forces on me for taking tests and quizzes. I don't trust it on my main machine, it acts too much like malware for my tastes, so I threw it on there. It works admirably in this role, much better than a Pentium Dual Core E2140 with 1GB of RAM and the integrated GeForce 7150 has any right to. I also use its' 1TB HDD as a backup spot for my user data.

Is that U.2 connector the new standard? I'm out of the loop, still on SATA/SAS.

Easiest way to think of U.2 is the speed of an M.2 slot but with a cable to a 2.5" drive. Both can deliver 4 PCIE lanes. Advantage of the 2.5" drive is much better cooling potential and sustained speeds without the slowdowns M.2 drives suffer from due to heat build up. Many motherboards with an M.2 and U.2 connector share the same bus and only allow you to choose one or the other. Not really a replacement for SAS/SATA as such, but good for a very fast boot drive.
