I can't say much about the purchase price, but Buck has told me that CDW is ruinously expensive, so using them as a benchmark is not a very good idea.

I have the E540. $599 is the RRP, $490 is excellent.

I run mine at 1280*1024, at UXGA small text is not clear. This may be a problem with my video card (AIW 7500), I will hook it up to my laptop next week and see if it improves.
