Oh. Well, in that case, I'll just give it ba....Hey, wait a gosh darn dog gone second! I think you've just tried to use that reverse psychology thingy stuff on me. You wouldn't do that to a nice guy like me who is trying to steal your thunder now, would you?

One of my customers is offering me an Evo in exchange for settling a $250 debt. It'd be the tiniest of tablets for me unless I bothered to switch over phone service, but it might be a fun toy.

Apparently, he has two because he he lost one and his phone insurance gave him another, then somebody returned the old one.

I use my Evo for reading books with Aldiko, which you could do.

I was kind of thinking it might be a decent portable gaming device.

Decent to me implies dedicated buttons for control. Nothing like covering up the screen with your fingers as you wrestle with touch screen controls. For $250 you could get a PSP and a DS.

It'd be more like $150 after I paid tax on the income.
Plus neither of those things runs Android and has all kinds of cool hacker-y things to play with.

Sprint has SERO Premium now for existing SERO customers who want to move to newer phones. My new Evo will be $45 a month. I realize that doesn't help anybody else but I think it's pretty cool.

I don't, which is why I resent paying for it.

Still $45/month is CHEAP. I mean $70 + $10 premium data charge - 25% discount is still $60/month. Your SERO plan works out to a 45% discount.

I use the stock battery. I also bought a second battery shortly after I bought the phone, but I haven't used it. I generally charge my phone while I'm at work.

I just use the stock battery. I just made sure to buy extra usb to micro usb cables so I can charge it when I need to. But 99% of the time, I just charge it at night.

Apple is now using nonstandard screws on new iCrap and in repairs on existing iCrap. (http://www.boingboing.net/2011/01/20/apples-diabolical-pl.html) Awesome. Not specifically a dig at the iphone for once, but since I just this very morning had to dig out a Torx screwdriver to open up an old Compaq I must say this is rather pissy of them.

Handruin

It's one thing to include the security screw on new devices. However, to have the repair staff replace existing normal Phillips screws with their new screws is a bit over the top. I've never felt the need to open my iPhone/iPod anyway, so I don't see a huge issue. The tool seems obtainable for those who really want to anyway. Those who wouldn't want do aren't affected because they're know no different.

I can't imagine that replacing the screws like that would be legal if you expressly asked them not to do it. Even if you asked them after the fact I would imagine they would have to swap them back for you.

Howell

I have had to replace iPhone3 screens which require removing the screws. And also I agree with Sol.

That may depend if it is under warranty. Of course they could choose not to repair out of warranty at all. I'm sure there will be expensive tools sold on eb*y to open them up.

At the end of the video in Merc's last link (which was pleasant to watch), they mention that they sell a kit including a tool to remove the proprietary screws and some 00 philips replacements.

Battery lasted 10 hours in moderate use. I think $12 for a second one is entirely reasonable.

I also prefer a second battery. When not in a device they usually hold a charge for moths.

Tmobile is offering all its smartphones free with a two-year contract this weekend. (http://www.examiner.com/gadgets-in-san-francisco/t-mobile-holding-all-smartphones-free-sale-this-weekend)

I'm trying to convince my friend that she needs something Android-y that she can use as an ebook reader and mp3 player since she refuses to change carriers.

They are also now offering unlimited calling to any cell phone (in US?) plus I think they just raised their data caps. Really sounds like they are scared and trying to cloud over the verizon offering and retain customers.

I took 122 pictures at the comic convention I went to. Still only used half the battery on my Evo. I am impressed by that. I am also surprised by how well the image stabilization works. I only took four shakey pictures all day. I would say my phone is very credible for point and shoot photos.

The Amazon App store for Android is kind of interesting. They offer a paid app for free every day. So far, they've mostly been stupid little games, but I have to say that I've made it a point to check what they have on offer pretty regularly, unlike Android Market.

On the apple side I found an app called appshopper, you load it up with a wish list and it notifies you of price changes, updates and shows you a price/update history for the app. Most apps fluctuate in price regularly so just stick it on your wish list and it lets you know whats up. Caught skyfire on sale last week.
