I am also happy to announce that today (8th Feb 2008 ) at 2pm EST, my wife Elin and I are now the proud parents of Isaac. Isaac weighs in at 6lb 3oz.

Both Mum and Jr are doing extremely well, and no complications experienced during or after birth. (Perfectly natural birth, abeilt 1 week early).

Like Clocker, my life just got a little busy!

Need some sleep now ... it's only been 36hrs since my last 30min nap.

PS. Clocker, I now know exactly how you feel. I had no problems assisting with birth, cutting the cord, etc. (Even though watching a birthing DVD a few weeks earlier had me gagging).

That is so great Chewy! Congrats to you & your wife! I'm glad everything is going smoothly for you. Depending on what you guys are doing (i.e. breastfeeding working etc.) the next few weeks/months could easily be one of the harder things you will do in life. But, it is so worth it! I could not imagine life w/o my son. Having a child has it's inconveniences but it's the best thing that has ever happened to me. Getting close to feeding time so I gotta go!

Thanks everyone.

Now that I've had a 8hr sleep while mum and Jr are still in the Hospital (they're coming home tomorrow), It's finally sunk in that I'm a Dad. And over the moon about it.

In the past I've never been one to handle or play with small kids or babies, but now I can't get enough. It's like a "You're now a parent" switch went off in my head, and I can now understand why it's so great to be a parent.

Thanks again to everyone for the well wishes.

PS. Still on the emotion of the event...

Grats, as a father with an 8 month old those days are still pretty fresh in my mind.
There will be some frustrating times in the future, when I get frustrated I just take a deep breath and put him down for a moment. Even if he's crying, sometimes you need a small break for yourself.

It's all worth it though. He's a lot more fun now than frustration. He does some very cute stuff and there's nothing in this world quite like a babies laugh IMO.

Congratulations and enjoy every moment you can.

I'm a little jaded about this (over the years, we seem to have acquired four smaller humans), so I'm not sure what to say. Congratulations are obviously due (commiserations come later), but I think it's important to remember who just went through 0.75 years of 24x7 discomfort, capped off with a few (?) hours of agony.

New m*ms are vulnerable; sympathy and support are the order of the day (goddess etc). Don't try to be the mother - it's anatomically impossible and won't do a lot for her probably fragile self-esteem in the months ahead.

Life with a newborn can be pretty rough for the first six months or so. But you keep going because you realize that your child is totally dependent on you (not to mention that your parents and many others managed to pull it off). And then there are the wonderful moments that delight you and fill your sense of worth until it overflows.

Enjoy.

how could I have not noticed this thread earlier!
Congratulations. that smile is really sunny.

so you're getting pretty good at changing diapers? In our time (wife's and mine) we still had cloth diapers and even with the sunny weather here and 40 diapers, there were times we would run short. But that was a long time ago. My eldest is now 33 and my youngest is 26. There's a 31 year old in between.

I remember when I first started, I was shocking at it... Now, like a pro, off and on in less time Isaac has to realise I have it off so he can pee everywhere! (It's like taking the nappy off is the queue for him to pee everywhere, but I guess most boys are like that).

He's now starting to teeth, so his been a grumpy little man over the last few days. I can only hope they come through pretty quick...
