I like seeing new results with cleaner energy. I'd love to see what one of these things looks like in person. I've never even seen a conventional wind turbine in person, only in books/photos/TV.

Interesting design.
They have a bunch in Tasmania, haven't seen them up close but they are frigging massive. There was actually a Vestas turbine manufacturing plant in the State, apparently it has been shut down because the 2MW turbines aren't being purchased by any customers, they are all going for larger capacity models.

Looks like only a protoptype - i.e, may be a lot of hotair. ;)

I found this on a news site : FlowDesign Wind turbine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WB5CawKfE2M)
Looks promising.

One of the companies in town makes towers for wind turbines and you can see the sections on site.
Ps. Did anyone else think think this thread was going to be about cow flatulence?

Not once and certainly not twice.

Would that provide an after-burner functionality to the wind turbine?

"Silent Wind" sounds like an ESL mixed euphemism. I'm surrounded by ESL friends.
I suppose a methane powered turbine could be combined with a windmill for periods of low flow. Probably best connected only electrically and not mechanically.
