I accidentally posted this help thread (http://forums.storagereview.net/index.php?showtopic=18112) at SR instead of SF. I don't want to double-post, but I know many of the people I'd like to read it don't frequent there. What do you goys think of posting at both?

What OS? Maybe try another disc to rule out dodgy media.
I dunno about the gigabyte but the MSI neo2 apparently likes SATA drives on SATA connector 3 when overclocking, if that makes any sense.
1. Try a different optical drive
2. Try installing a different OS to confirm the CPU, motherboard and HDD.Even Win98 DOS would be a start (I think the BIOS will allow it to install on the SATA drive?).
3. Replace the motherboard.

Recently, I've been having problems with installs because the MB has AHCI turned on by default and the OS can't detect a proper HD controller. You are obviously having a detect problems -- Possibly the same problem? I've been solving my dificulties by switching to standard ATA and then later installing the HD controller drivers and finally after that going back into CMOS setup and switching back to AHCI.

Howell, it's 8:20AM and I'm at work. Those sorts of posts just throw my rational thought processes out the window.
:eekers:
I don't know whether to laugh or cry. And the sig! What did it mean?

Even if you're not, but instead Christian, it's still derogatory.

Well, swapping optical and cable did nothing. Doing a mobo swap as we speak. Back to a good ol' MSI K8T NEO FSR...stupid SATA driver floppy....

Well, I hope the levity was appreciated. Buck, its only derogatory if intended so.
The sig is from the movie Waking Ned Devine. It's a great movie. It is essentially a declaration of love between two characters.
Good luck David!
Well, I hope the levity was appreciated.
I thought it was funny.

Anyway, so I don't always have to link to SR:
Brand-new components ordered from newegg:
Gigabyte GA-K8NS Motherboard (nForce3 250 chipset)
Athlon 64 3000+ Retail (with retail HSF)
2x 512MB PC3200 Buffalo RAM (also tested with Mushkin Blue line)
ATI Radeon 7000 PCI (Also tested with 9200 and 9800Pro)
160GB Samsung SATA drive
Lite-On 8x DVD+/-RW (Dual-layer)
Antec Sonata w/ Stock 380W PS
Nice little office machine, right? The parts went together very smoothly. BIOS configuration was a snap as well. Here's the glitch:
Right after booting to the CD, the text "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration" pops up and doesn't go away. Activity to the CD/HDD stops instantly, but the NumLock key/LED still responds.
Here's what I've tried to fix it:
MemTest86+ for 24 hours - No errors
BIOS health/voltage check - No issues
Video card swap - No change
RAM swap (including only using one DIMM) - No change
BIOS reset - no change
Minimal system config (everything disabled in BIOS and all unnecessary cables/components removed) - no change
I must be dense. Anybody care to enlighten me? :cyclop:

Goy is a yiddish word for gentile. Plural: goyim or goys
Sometimes derogatory.
