Only downside is it is the first gen model that can't burn DVD+R.

Thanks for the info. Too bad about the dvd-r thing, otherwise these seem to be getting to the right price range....

DVD-R and DVD+R are different technologies. Supposedly DVD+R is the format that will work with the most standalone DVD players.

I think Panasonic is making a DVD burner that supports both writeable and rewritable DVD formats, at the cost of CD burning support. That seems like the model to watch.

That's a killer price, but I want the ability to Burn DVD+R.

Mercutio: DVD-R is the most compatible medium. DVD+R & DVD+RW can still be read by most standalond DVD players, but on some older models DVD-R will work when DVD+RW won't work.
