From www.abc.net.au (http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/s1042956.htm):

US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld says he does not recall British Prime Minister Tony Blair's pre-war claim that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction ready to be deployed in 45 minutes.

"I don't remember the statement being made, to be perfectly honest," Mr Rumsfeld told a Pentagon news conference.

General Richard Myers, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said he did not remember the statement either.
...
Mr Rumsfeld was asked whether before the war he believed the British claim.

"I'd have to see the statement. And to have an opinion, I would have to go ask the intelligence community as to what they thought at that time," he said

"Because what it is they thought very likely would be what it is I thought. And I'd have to go back and I don't know when the statement was made," he said.

I wonder, are residents of the US even aware of these comments, as all the news focuses on Kerry?

Well as I read the article what is in question is not whether Blair said Iraq had WMD, but whether they had them such that they could deploy them in 45 minutes. I don't find the fact that Rumsfeld cannot recall that specific statement having been made by Blair to very significant. He's not denying that it was said, just can't recall it. I don't see why this is even newsworthy to be honest with you. I mean - so what?

BTW - I haven't seen this story over here as yet.

It is hardly surprising that Donald Rumsfeld cannot remember what the senator for the 51 state of the USA said because he doesn't listen to the other senators in the other 50 states, besides when you are as old as he is your memory become`s extremely fragile and forgetful I think it's called Old Timers Syndrome.

perhaps Rumsfel suffers from Wretched Memory Dissimulation...
