Ever notice that some days you can be a complete klutz. Today I think I tripped like 12 times or something.
But the best part of today was when I spilled my glass of orange juice on my desk. It was almost like I was watching the event unfold in slow motion. I knew my hand was going to knock it over...did the hand listen to the brain? hell no, he just plowed right into the sucker, didn't even try to grasp the glass properly....stupid hand.

Heh, when i'm in the bathroom I am pretty good at knocking my deodorant off the counter.. of course it always manages to bounce off three things before it usually does a dive into the toilet bowl...
That's always fun.
Other than that I'm usually pretty good.

Believe it or not, beyond maybe the age of 3, I've probably tripped no more than maybe 4 times total. Certainly a hundred close calls along the way, but no classic trip followed by a cessation of walking/running.
Once, when I was in my twenties, I recall tripping and falling flat as I was jogging across a presumably flat field at night and managed to suddenly put my foot into an invisible hole. Damn, that was a surprise. I never though grass and sand tasted so bad.
Other than that, back in early times, I recall a smirking would-be grammar school bully tripping me up as I was trotting by. Needless to say, after I swiftly recovered to my feet and proceeded to modify his facial features, he never tried that again with me. That was the only fight I was ever involved in at school.

Some days? I'm like that all the time, from an inner-ear problem that gives me poor balance (and bad hearing). I can't tell you how many times I fell off my bike as a kid. I think one of my teeth is still embedded in a road near where I grew up.
...I hope you enjoyed it.
No enjoyment, just a rational reaction.
I was on him too quickly, as he didn't have a chance to stand up (he was sitting on a bench when he stuck his leg out).
It was basically a quick hard Right Fist, Left Fist, then deep Right Knee into the stomach thing and it was over 2 seconds later. Fat boy never messed with me again.

I know I did when I beat a guy who had been bullying me for years with a crowbar. I was 11 at the time. I snuck up on him and just started whacking him in the head repeatedly. He spent some time in the hospital and never bothered telling anyone how he got his injuries. Too embarassed perhaps? Maybe his parents thought he tripped. :mrgrn: Nobody ever bothered me after that though, including his equally delinquent buddy. He was next on my list for the crowbar treatment. BTW, I explained away the blood on my clothes by telling my parents I had a nosebleed in school.
I haven't been in a fight of any sort as an adult but I've had few close calls. Once a group of teenagers started threatening me. I pulled out my switchblade, put on my "crazy person" stare, and they bolted away. I chased them down a few blocks just to scare the shit out of them. I find that you can defuse most situations just by not getting angry when provoked, or by acting like you're insane. I would beat the crap out of anybody hurting an animal, though. That just drives me crazy.

I just posted about a few teenagers threatening me, and then going the other way, and destroying park property.
I try and get along, more or less, with everybody, even at the ghetto school I was teaching at. Different groups have different means of survival, and, to tell the truth, at our school, I'm not sure the gang guys were all that far off.
That said, about 20 years ago, I used to work out with, and hang out with, the world heavyweight full contact karate champ at the time, and the full contact point champion, along with a 7th degree Kempo black belt, another guy that did the breaking exhibitions in San Francisco, for a Kung fu master in San Jose, etc.
I was the craziest of the bunch. This reputation did not get me many sparring partners, but, it did lead to great stories.
We used to go to bars, and pretend we were drunk, and just get sort of wild, have fun, and be crazy. The other guys, legally carried enough weapons to start a small martial arts store, not to mention other sorts of arms.
Suffice to say, we would be having fun, and they would always want to pick on the world heavyweight Karate champion. I think this is mainly because he's a very dark color, and, you really can't see who you are messing with.
One time some guy was trying to pick a fight, and he just sort of leaned over, gave this great big grin, showing huge, white teeth, and started laughing his head off.
He said something like,
'You want to pick a fight with me?' and kept on laughing. I think it was punctuated by a stretch, and clenching of fists about the size of hams. His thumb was as wide as both of mine put together, plus some.
The response was so contrary to what the guy expected, that it threw the guy off, and he wisely decided to go pick on easier, smaller prey.
I do find it odd that I feel the same way about animal abusers that you do.
An assault on another human doesn't bother me as much as some punk kids trying to kill geese that I know, with rocks. An otherwise conservative person is suddenly yelling obscenity, at the top of his lungs, intended to drive off, or change the attention focus, of the punks, onto either their survival, or my presence.
Kind of reminds me of the elephants in Kruger. The giant males keep the adolescent males in line. Without those older males, the younger males run amuck, killing, and destroying...

Is the forum screwed up? Santilli has been double posting like crazy and now Howell. :alb:

Me tripping or your double posting?
When I say 12 times, I exaggerate. And when I say trip, I don't mean flat on my face - just a brief stumble in your step. I think Buck was right though - probably exhaustion....makes me think about what tired pilots could do though when they aren't "all there"....or truck drivers etc etc.

If I can raise enough money to offset the cost, some day we may have our own dedicated solution...for the size we are, the speed would be fantastic.
Then the task of managing a linux server is a whole new role. :)

na, I just wish the web as a whole would be faster.... I think I need fiber straight from SF to my computer... right through people's homes, ok?
For the most part, SF is plenty fast for my needs. Lately I haven't had a problem just a momentary slowdown and the next time I get on things are back to normal.
